My only complaint about the Saleen auto is that you're forced to take a 3.31 rear end, as opposed to the 3.55 ratio that's standard with the manual. The optional 3.73 ratio is not available with the auto...
That's why I put 3.73's in my Auto. With the 475 upgrade, gears, X-pipe, and tune I am running it's stupid quick, auto or not. This is not your Daddy's old school 3 or 4 speed Auto of years past that lose 20% driveline. Maybe 17-18%, but fairly close to a manual, with the torque multiplication only an Auto car will give you. Some of these newer 5-speed Auto Mustangs are running 10's with a totally stock transmission. Look at JDM's 10.32 Auto car with several hundred passes on it. I've had 3 Cobras and several other Manual cars, but I really like this Auto.

actually the 3.27 is standard with the manual. The 3.55 is an option you have to pay for. at least for the 99-04 saleens. did they change that on the 05+ and bump everything up? maybe we're talking about two different years....

I know how to drive stick, but I special-ordered automatic because I drive her every day. I would never trade the automatic, but I have to admit, I find my hand resting on the shifter almost constantly while I'm driving. It's like my hand can't help itself from trying to shift! I would love to have the option --- wouldn't that be cool to have a true manual (not like Audi triptronic) that you could shift into automatic when you felt like it?
Yeah, especially when you're stuck on the freeway. That Audi system is pretty sweet though. I think its called DSG or something like that, and it is actually faster in the 0-60 then the manual version because it shifts so quickly. I kind of think a system like that would be pretty sweet in a Saleen. Make it like a formula one car.

Yeah, that's actually what the DSG system is. Paddle shifters and can go in automatic or manual mode. And the shifts are lighting fast. Very sweat. Not sure if the S7 has a system like that or not, but at 500k, it should offer it.

The S7 is a stick, no paddle options at this time.

When you've been driving stick so long its hard to just drive an automatic performance car.

My hubby's new toy is an Audi Q7 (sport ute). For the first three weeks, he had to shift it into overdrive on the highway manually with the paddles. The shifting is still not quiteright, but they're working on it at the dealership.... Nobody there can figure out the codes. [sm=smiley29.gif]Anyway, while the triptronic is slick, it's just not as satisfying as a clutch.

Hey, Ford/Saleen,add this to a wish list... the thrill of a true stick shift - with an automatic switch you can push when you're going through the KFC drive-thru.
