It still doesnt matter, I seriously toasted both of them. They cant hook up worth a ****. I witnessed it first hand.

But my post has nothing to do with the originol post. My cobra is not technically stock. I have gears, and also good nitto tires, as well as a irs brace, and all poly irs bushings. So i just launch like a ****.
But stock for stock it would be very close. Maybe leaning torward the gto after i looked up some info. The cobras have the stock 355 wich is not so good for takeoff.

I hate to tell ya but either GTO would take you. The GTO is putting out a lot more HP. The GTO will give the 03/04 cobras a run for there money

I always thought the GTO would smoke my '01 S281, but not true. First my car is basically stock, non SC, 3.55 Max Grip differential and the 18x10 rear wheel tire upgrade. I have upgraded the ignition coils, added a Steeda plenum spacer, King Cobra clutch, and big brake kit on front.
About 6 months ago late on a Saturday night, waaaay outside of ATL on a divided four lane freeway, I was cruising at my usual 90-100 and passed a GTO who was in the slow lane going about 70. He woke up and came after me. I was a bit hesitant to play fearing an ***-whipping, but after some taunting from him, my curiousity got the best of me. For the next 50 miles or so we were "dogfighting".Multiple bursts of 70-140 side by side and nose to tail. Neither of us was walking away from the other, it was pretty even. My explanation is his GTO was an A/T (what axle ratios are available?) and I believe the GTO's are a few hundred lbs heavier aren't they? Really surprised me.

Specualte all you freaking want.. You should have just raced him to find out.. So many variables involved. You cant go by what one car did in a magazine in a test run... It mostly comes down to the driver and the cars engine condition when 2 cars are so close like this.

I remember when new GTO first came out Road Track TV took it
out and was thoroughly umimpressed.
It's basically nothing but an Austrialian made re-boxed mid sized sedan.
