is your cobra completely stock, and was it the 5.7 or 6.0 gto. I have raced both and both times i come out on top. I dont have that many mods but he might get you from a roll, i always get em from a stop. Do you even have a gear in the rearend or is it the 355 stock. cause you need to get a gear first to get that thing off the line better. just my .02

The 6.0 has 400 hp. What does a 99 stock cobra make?

320 horsepower

I've never seen the two run side-by-side, but the GTO is an aweful small car. I can understand why standing start is probably harder on the GTO.....pathetically small tires for the amount of HP the car is pushing.

With the same driver.....may be hard pressed to take even the350 HP 2004 version with a stock 99 Cobra. Just numbers and intuition though....no first-hand experience to speak of.

I hate to tell ya but either GTO would take you. The GTO is putting out a lot more HP. The GTO will give the 03/04 cobras a run for there money

That's with a good launch. The cobra's are easier to launch than the GTO. On a roll I would say the GTO.

Heres aRUFF comparison of the ls2 gto to a stock03-04TERMINATOR... Curb weight-cobra-3664, Curb weight-ls2 gto-3725... 1/4 stock time-cobra 12.9 and ls2 gto-13flat... So sorry to say but i think the gto (if an ls2) would of easilyhad you... Now the ls1 on the other hand runs a 13.8 and your 99 cobra should run a 13.9 if in good condition.. So the ls1 might be more of a drivers race...

That would be a good analysis.

99 MUSTANG COBRA SPECS- I found a few road tests on 99 Cobra Mustangs and 01 Cobras, followed by some 04-06 GTO tests, this first one shows a 99 Cobra best of 13.9 in the 1/4, and 5.4 seconds going 0-60...
http://home.pon.net/hunnicutt/history_50vs46.htm
This second test shows a best of 13.79 @ 100.84 in the quarter...
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/roadtests/4372/
01 MUSTANG COBRA SPECS - This next test shows a "fixed" 2001 Cobra doing 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, and turning the 1/4 in 13.5 @ 105...
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ang-cobra.html
04 GTO 5.7 SPECS - This test shows a 2004 GTO going 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and turning the1/4 in 13.62 @ 104.78...
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...4_pontiac_gto/
This second test shows a 2004 GTO doing the 1/4 mile in 13.52 @ 105.57...
http://www.highperformancepontiac.co...ag_strip_test/
05/06 GTO 6.0 SPECS - This test shows a 6.0 2005 GTO going 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, and turning the 1/4 mile in 13.3 @ 105.9...
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...pes_comparison
This second 05/06 6.0 GTO tests shows it going 0-60 in 5.0 seconds, and it doing the 1/4 in 13.3 @ 107.5...
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/index.html

FINAL AVERAGES0-60 1/4

99 Cobra 5.4 13.84 @ 101
01 Cobra 4.8 13.5X @ 105
04 GTO 5.7 5.2 13.57 @ 105
05/06 GTO 6.0 4.8 13.3X @ 106

I hope this helps...in MY opinion, and not just because I own one, I believe either an 04 or 05/06 GTO will win stock for stock. I know of documented stock 05/06 GTO's running 12.9 in the quarter, and stock 04 GTO's running 13.06 @ 106 - 13.10 (the 2 fastest I have heard of) in the quarter. I'm sure there are faster stock 99-01 Cobras than are shown in the road test also. I know with the LS1/LS2 motors like us GTO owners have, they tend to get faster as they are broken in, and I don't know if Mustangs are the same. Also an FYI, GTO'sand LSX motors tend to also befreakishly fast on the freeway and in higher speeds for some reason. Sorry for the long reply, hope its useful!
