question on the S351.....
This is timely as I have been meaning to ask this question for a while now. I have seen the S351 mentioned quite a bit lately, and saw a few in person last w/e in Santa Clara show. Anyway, I realize the S351 started it's life as a V-6, but just how the 351 came to be, I would like to know.
Did Saleen install the 351 during their regular mods? Where there no V-8's in Stangs at that point (were these really Mustang II's) Why the 351 and not the 5.0 or 281? Where there automatics? Optional supercharger? New smell Christmas tree on the rear-view? What if I didn't want a 351 but still wanted the V-6? Would they do that? What about discrimination against the V-6? Do you think Steve is a racist against the V-6? What if I suehim for this injustice? Would you all join in on a class action lawsuite?
WE WILL BRING HIM TO HIS KNEES AND CRUSH HIM WITH THE POWER OF THE MASSES!!! HAHAA HAA HAAAA HAAHA [sm=badbadbad.gif]

I have nothing to offer on your myriad other queries. I am much too shallow for such things.

Did Saleen install the 351 during their regular mods (yep, 351 Windsor....not of the Cleveland, OHvariety)? Where there no V-8's in Stangs at that point (were these really Mustang II's) Why the 351 and not the 5.0 or 281 (no replacement for displacement mentality; they made S281's in some of the same production years as S351's)? Where there automatics (dunno)? Optional supercharger (indeed....the supercharged S351's are bad mo fo's....more so than the02 [&o]- 04Extremes that were slated to be theSC'ed S351'sreplacement)? New smell Christmas tree on the rear-view (slightly cheaper thanthe beryllium paint option)? What if I didn't want a 351 but still wanted the V-6 (SOL)? Would they do that? What about discrimination against the V-6 (of course...)? Do you think Steve is a racist against the V-6 (indeed....)? What if I suehim for this injustice (payout for your trouble and time.......life time supply of 2-door Specs with the optional racing suspension package)? Would you all join in on a class action lawsuite (for a good laugh.....why not)?

RE: question on the S351.....
I think the 351 engine is the most intriguing chapter in Saleen's history. Not all 351s started with a V-6, some started as a V-8 (5.0 and then 4.6) Mustang GT. The 351 was basically a truck engine shoehorned into the Mustang chassis. Saleen offered supercharged and n/a 351s. I believe none wereautomatics. Saleen finally gave up on the engine because EPA certification was becoming too costly (and, I believe, because they were too tempermental and too many customers were experiencing blown engines). I think Saleen was growing substantially at the time the first 351s were offered and it was an ambitious thing (perhaps too ambitious?) to basically create such a high performance engine from whole cloth. Despite that, I'm still looking for a supercharged 351 in good condition to buy...
Here's an old article from Mustang 5.0 Magazine, which briefly discusses the 351, that is worthwhile reading:

RE: question on the S351.....
94-95 S-351's were made mostly from GT chassis's. From 96-99 all S-351's were made form V6 cars. Saleen did offer in 94 a Saleen Spot edition which was a V6. One or two of them were supercharged. I know where a supercharged one is setting in a body shop after being wrecked. I think the other one is one the West Coast.

RE: question on the S351.....
Thanks for all the great info
I saw one in ApexMotorsports show that was reaaaaaaaaal nice. Was agorgeous red (not stock as you could seeoriginal redunder hood) I know it was not Lizstick but VERY eye catching. It wasblown and the baby of one of the guys who worked there. Sounded VERY healthy when moving it, and was jaw dropping beautiful. It was a'97 I think.
I just spent 10 minutes looking for posted pics of show, and still can't find any. If anyone has a link, please post one.
Thanks. Jazzer
