Default 302 Stroker

Bit confused. To go to a 302 stroker would I have to replace my whole block or could you just buy a stroker kit and open the motor and replace the crankshaft to stroke the motor out to 302ci. Still learning about internals so any help would be great.

Stroker kit only. Do a search on Power Block (Horsepower TV) for the episode where they did this. It was pretty detailed and should be pretty helpfull. They have yet to bring the car back in for the final tune and dyno, but I would imagine 400hp to be expected.

So just buy the stroker kit and have a performance shop install it and I should be good to go. Is stroker the only company that offers a kit? What are the negatives to doing this?

I actually don't know enough about it to be much help, I only know what I watched on HorsePower TV earlier this year - that it was a kit and not a complete block. I'm sure there are several companies offering a kit by now. I would call Saleen and see what kit they are using for their 302's...heck it might even be available via the store now.

can you convert the 4.6 extremes to the 302E yet? If so, does the car have to go to your shop or can it be done by Saleen Canada at the Montreal facility?

How much to do the conversion? Would you be willing to sell the kit since I live on the opposite side of the US from you?

I dont know if we can just yet, but very soon. I'm not sure if Saleen Canada is capable of that to be honest, you may need to go to Saleen Troy.

The 302 conversion is about 10k for just the engine with labor. Doing the supercharger and such would be extra. I dont think we have the kit available just yet, I will look into it tommorow to check its availability.

And NO... that doesnt mean we wont ever offer it. I already had to send a letter to MM&FF after someone misquoted me!

O.K. Jared, since I'm sort of on topic, Is the PJ motor and state of tune (compression, etc...) the same as what you start out with on the 302 Extreme before the blower is applied? Or to word the question differently, regarding the powerplant - all I would need to do to get equivalent results in HP to a 302 Extreme is add the Saleen supercharger? Or are other differences in the block / valves / compression present that would make this a bad idea?

Just wondering what the future upgradeability is on the PJ platform.

Chuck
