Default Lower Roll Bar

Does anyone happen to know why Saleen changed the roll bar design between 02 and 03/04?

I never really noticed that they changed it until recently. Is it harder to get into the back seat with the lower roll bar?

Was this just a design issue? I know that the taller roll bar probably won't protect you THAT much in a rollover. The roll bar is mostly for show.

02 vs 04

Two things. This may be an esthetic issue (I think the lower bar on Speedster looks WAY better as it is just above the cover and looks *****. Maybe there is a different bar available for either the Speedster or the convertable. I would agree that the bar would be a PITA when getting in back seat. Also, I would be curious to know if you can see over/under low bar via rear-view mirroror would it obstruct your vision [&:]

I can't answer your question, but just to clear it up a bit..it is PURELY decorative. It is technially not a roll bar, it is a decorative light/tonneau bar for styling points only. Hopefully you (or nobody for that matter) has found out the hard way, but it won't protect a roll-over.

This was an 04' option only. The rear view vision SUCKS!!!! It is actually all one pc.......tonn.and bar. They do look good though! Here are a couple of pics I took at the 03' SEMA show.

so the rear vision with it being lower sucks? Can you see anything underneath it at all or does the tonneau cover/spoiler block your vision? mine is ok up higher.

I can only imagine getting in and out of the back seat. people have trouble getting in and out in my car. I'd think it's pretty much impossible with a low bar like that!

I read where they put the larger Saleen banner on the door bacause when it was on the window it interfered with you being able to get good camera angles on Josh Harnett and Harrison Ford who stared in the movie that the car was in. Josh Harnetts character owned a Saleen. Pretty cool I thought. Movie was not all that good I didn't think however.

To the original post I like the speedster with the lower bar but if you don't have the speedster on then you don't have the light bar. I have thought about adding the light bar at some point I think it looks good on Evils car.

well the advantage of having a higher roll bar is that I have a plexiglass windscreen that fits below the roll bar to cut down on the wind blowing forward.

so on the lower roll bar, the light bar on the 04 isn't ATTACHED to the tonneau, is it?

maybe we can get tim to weigh in on all of this since he has/had an 04...

All good points made.

Casey is correct that the Speedster tonneau cover with attached light bar ( roll bar as it's been called in this thread ) was an 2004 only package with the only exception that the SA-20 got the same set up.

Yes, it's a bitch to see over, around or past it. It's also a bit of a pain to unplug the lightbar conncetion and have the entire thing flop around on you. I have not seen a windscreen for this set up yet.

I can't tell you whay Saleen did it. They get the original lightbar from Classic and it's pretty cheap.

Give the man a prize on the info from the Hollywood Homicide. They removed the windshield banner for exactly that reason and added the side decal for the exposure.
