my only complaint is that the rear tires are way to small and spin too easily - even in 3rd.
They are 275 40 20
I cant figure out what is the fattest tire I can stick on the 10in rims. They guys at the tire shops I call
didnt give me any confidence that they knew what they are talking about. I think 295s would work but what about bigger than that?

I have the same complaint too, so when I replaced the rears a few months ago I asked Saleen about this. They said they wouldn't recommend anything above a 275 due to clearance issues. I had the see for myself so I parked with the passenger side on an incline and the driver's side flat. This caused the rear tire to tuck up inside the wheel well like it would if it hit a bump or something. There isn't much clearance with the 275's. You might be able to get away with a 285, but I didn't want to risk it.
I have seen non-Saleen S197s with lowered suspensions fit 305s in the rear, so my guess is we could do the same on our Saleens if we have wheels with the correct offset.
That being said, I don't know what the max. width is for the 10" (upgraded) Saleen rear wheel.
I'm not positive if I have 9's or 9.5's in the rear, but I have fit a 285 on it- I think that is as big as you can go. On a 10 inch rim, you should easily be able to put a 305 on it, possible pushing to a 315. Which tire shop did you take it to? Nitto came out with some pretty sweet drag tires for the street- 555R2 I think they are called. Also, Toyo has a R888 that is pretty much ALL rubber. I have heard great reviews from both. Might be good enough to check out.
is your friend. You can go 295's out back with zero problems on a 10 inch rear. Anyone who tells you can't go larger than a 285 doesnt know what they are talking about. I had a Saleen 10 inch rear widened to a 11 inch wheel with a 295 and had no problems. You can go as wide as a 305. Just make sure you go with a 305-30-20 as the sidewall on the 305 will get a little tall. On tirerack you can actually compare the actual total height of the tire so that when you are figure out your size you don't go too tall. I went with a 295-30-20 in a Toyo prox. The sidewall was bit short for most people but i liked it and the 295 really fills up the area better. The 275's on the 10" wheels look like you are looking at the back of a train.
I brightened up this pic for you. Tell me how much better a 295 looks back there on a 10 inch wheel over the 275. ?
Pirelli p-zero 305/35zr are 28.4 tall & 12. wide Vs.stock 275/40 are 28.6 tall& 10.8 wide. 1.4 Wider, yet not much difference on height,.2 shorter. Careful though, overall sizes will vary between manufactures. Example: A Pirelli305/35actualheight and widthwill differthan X brand.
