Default belt tensioner help!

I wanted to up the boost on my gt but I can't even get my tensioner to stay intact at 5.5 lbs. The stock ford one lasted a good two weeks but it snapped in two. Then I went through an advanced auto one that lasted a day and two auto zone tensioners that each lasted a day before snapping in two (usually a WOT from 1st to 2nd). Any suggestions? Are there steel tensioners? Has anyone ever heard of this problem? And do you saleen series IV users have the stock ford tensioner or something else?

I also just realized that the 00-04's belt tensioner is made of billet steel and the design looks superior than my 96-99 aluminum belt tensioner...

thanks tk for the info. BTW, if anyone is having the same problem I found that ford makes a steel tensioner thats about 145 dollars. Just google part number XR3Z-6B209-DB. It is basically a must for blown 96-99 mustangs as I've read in other forums.

They might be considered by some to be overkill?, but you can't beat the quality, made here, in the USA. I got mine new-used. It is the best.

What is it worth NOT to break a tensioner while out cruisin' around on a Saturday night with your best girl?

I would say that $230 is a small price to pay if you would need to get your car towed otherwise

What I'd question is why a 300 RWHP is breaking ANY tensioners. That seems odd.

Personally, I'd check to make sure you're running the proper length belt. If you're running a belt that's too small it can cause things like this to happen.

What size pulley are you running?
