Would YOU Buy a New Saleen?
#21
I read the first few posts and skipped to the reply, so I apologize if this is a rehash.
Personally, given the money you have spend to buy one new, vs. what you can buy one for with really low miles used, I have to say buy one used and save 15-20 thousand dollars.
I love the car, but still have a hard time swallowing the markup for a body kit and suspension.
That's my .02. Individual mileage will vary.

Why buy a new one. If you get one that is 2 years old or so, you can get a great deal, and if anything was wrong with it, it has fixed already under warranty. No disrespect to anyone, but most carsalesman are slimeballs, and wil lsay whatever to sell you ca car. If you get a new one, you beter save 30% off sticker. Also, you need to get then to warranty it somehow in writing without any fine print. The Saleen is an amazing vehicle, and I do not think you will gain much buying new vs one that is a couple years old with under 10k on it.

New versus used is a debate that comes up often. To each his or her own, but I don't think I would go back to a used Mustang again, or if I did, it would be bone-stock and unmodified. There is nothing quite like the feeling that if something is messed up on my car - I messed it up! Sure the warranty is an issue right now, but I bet you could get a new one for the same price as a recent used one...

I agree that I would rather have a new one, but if you do not get an amazing deal, it is not worth doing. As far as modified, I am not fond of buying a modified car either, but these cars are horrible stock and need it. I'd rather buy a low mileage used one that looks good and already has like a JDM stage II kit in it to save myself a couple more thousand. Again, you need to make sure the car was not beat up on, and has low mileage. We are talking about buying something new without a warranty, the rules change I think with Saleen's situation. New might not be thebest idea. Again, you better be saving at least 30% for it to be worth it.

I bought my car new, got a really good deal on it. I've had it for a year and a half now. I've had to replace all the badges, the 3rd brake light, and the front brake pads (due to squealing) on my dime. The wheels have a few spots in the chrome peeling and the passenger side airbag occupant sensor does not work correctly due to the change in seat cushion. Not having the Saleen warranty really effects nothing with me because the two times I took it in for service they were unable to fix the problems anyway. To me the styling of the car has made up for all the above problems. The reason I bought it to begin with was to stand out in a crowd and not blend in with all the other Mustangs on the road. It definatly does that. Every time I drive the car people gawk at it and I always get comments like what is that, who makes that, or thats sweet!!
