How about if you just trade for another saleen + cash? Then you can still have the looks and not be afraid to drive it.

Hey....maybe you can get an extreme out of the deal!

The Saleen looks 10x better to me as the 500 does not really look any different than a regualr mustang unless you know what to look for. If I were to continue to want to sell, I think the trade might be a good move to sell now, however, I think if I had the 500, I would not be so cautious when driving it, and may want to keep it. Just thinking out loud still. Thanks for all of the input.
Actually It's a well known fact that Lizstick Red is just House of Kolor Candy Magenta over House of Kolor Orion Silver. Another forum member has painted several racing bikes that LizStick color. Now if you had Speedlab Yellow that would be a problem but LizStick isn't.

I would bet my life that the color is not 100% identical. I have read many threads over the last year mentioning hoe it is close, but the paint can only be obtained by Saleen. I guarantee if something happened to my car, and a door had to be painted, it would stick out like a sore thumb if Saleen did not fix it. I am sure the color is almost the same, but Saleen does not give out their code. Even if the silver is a fraction of a tint off it would not match.

Saleens are rarer but that doesnt necessarily mean they will be worth more. Its really hard to say. for your situation I would at least go take a look at the car. What color is it?

If I were in a situation where someone offered me an 08 Shelby black with less that 10k miles and I could take out my stereo I think I would do it. Mines only an SC. If I had an extreme on the other hand I wouldnt.
The Shelby is Blue with White stripes. I was kind of thinking along the same lines. If I can put the Shaker 500 back in, I might do it. I only replaced the head unit, but I paid 1300 for it. Only reason I said Saleen worth more is because I do not think we are going to see any more new Saleens come out. Also the fact that the Shelbys were selling for way over sticker. They came down a ton also. I see a lot of them on Ebay for the 37k area. That is a huge loss in one year. Not mention the production numbers.

Awww, now you're scaring me! Seeing as MJ apparently didn't get the "paint facility", perhaps they won't be as fixed on keeping the paint recipes so secret... I wonder if they'll slip me the recipe in case the worst happens...

However, I know the 500 is going to depreciate from this point forward at a much faster rate.
How do you figure? Saleen is going bankrupt and only die hard fans will continue to buy used saleens IMO...I value everyone else's opinions but you asked so I will act as devil's advocate Besides you asked this question in a Saleen forum....so I figure there will be many biased opinions and for good reason but still biased. The GT500's are continuing to sell strong and will after Carroll Shelby passes on from this world...I dont see it dying with him and he now has just as good a relationship with Ford as Steve does/did. Dont get me wrong...I love the saleen and the lizstick color option (almost bought a 2001) but I guess I put Shelby and its products over that of Saleen or the former Saleen. again JMO

I would too!

that can recoup some cost and be put into the GT500...I know Saleen is still going to offer parts but I worry about any warranty....and I have to say this but the Saleens are just as overpriced as the GT500's and they never seem to come down in price like the GT500 did....and both types offer and have production numbers or certificates of authenticity....the possibilities are endless with both but the question you need to ask yourself is "What do you want more....the GT500 or the Saleen? If it were me and even with that awesome paint option I would get the newer GT500 and enjoy it and drive it (nice days of course) and like others have said most never buy a car in hopes of selling it for more later on...the more it is modded the more time it will take to find someone that will buy it. They have to want it as bad as you did and it has no warranty when highly modded...I know that can be said for both the GT500 and the Saleen.

I think it is ridiculous to see the Saleens selling new for 50-100+ thousand dollars on ebay.....sure it has a warranty but from a company that is going bankrupt...Shelby will warranty the GT500 SS if it is built at Shelby motors and you go for the 600HP option and not the 725 HP option.

Either decision you make it is your money and your car to sell or trade.....no one on here can ultimately make that decision for you and if it is one you regret based off others opinions then your stuck with it and all of us are no worse for the wear except you......again JMO

I'd be more afraid of driving around with 500+ hp on the stock internals than worrying about chippng the paint. It shouldn't be hard to find someone to duplicate that paint. You most likely wouldn't be able to get it done at a dealership but rather somewhere that does custom work. It comes down to what you want.. do you want to be able to drive around and not come accross a car like yours pretty much anywhere you go or do you want to have a slightly more common car that you don't have to be worried about putting a rod through the oil pan if you get on it or having a $7,000 paint bill if you park in the wrong spot and some jealous jack ass decides to key it. If you worry about things happening to the car to the point where its no fun then the GT500 would be better for you.. and I definatly agree that the GT500 would be easier to sell for the same reasons already mentioned.

I really do not beat on it much :-) I am not worried about the motor at this point which is why I stopped at the 3.4 pulley, and the mild tune. If it were not for that JDM kit, I definitely would be trading. I think it has been shown enough to be safe on here, and mostly everyone will agree with that setup. But you are correct with the worry free driving I would have with the 500. I think me selling it is partly due to not driving it much. Don't get me wrong, we can all use the money, but that is not the entire reason I am selling it. I am afraid if the paint, and also putting miles on thecar in an effort to keep it valuable. As for future value, I will go to Grand Nationals again. In the future, I think the Saleen will be worth more due to bankruptcy. Warranty means nothing once the car is 3 years old anyway. People will remember. We bought Saleens because of how awesome they are. People will seek them out in the future like every other great car that stopped being produced.

Just DRIVE your car

Stop worrying about resale or mileage or paint or wear and tear or blowing the engine or what ANYONE else thinks. a car is a HORRIBLE investment, PERIOD! Why did you buy it if you feel this way about actually driving it? I am not trying to be a dick, just cannot understand why you don't just go out and enjoy it already

I purchased my car with 31K on the clock in June of '06. I am passing 65K right now. I don't beat on my car and take exceptional car of it. I install a fresh 8 quarts of full-syn oil with filter every 3K miles. I have gone WOT maybe ONE TIME since I have owned it. High mileage or repairs be damned...

I DRIVE MY CAR EVERY CHANCE I GET

Let me ask you something. If you continued to worry about all the things that COULD go wrong and continued to make payments. You kept it for 10 years and sold it with 9800 on the ODO, what would it be worth? Remember, those are a somewhat "concerned" 9800 miles. Letting those thoughts creep into your head as you drive. Let's say $20K, because the odds are Saleen is not going to be around at that time and no parts available. If it IS still around, there will be TONS of newer models and people are going to want the 1500 hp, 4 wheel drive beast of 2019. Great, you took a $40K hit over that time and drove your ride a handfull of times, relatively speaking.

Now continue to drive the car, take cool road trips, show off and boost the ego (A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT ) Put your beautiful girlfriend/wife/mistress/lover in the passenger seat and cruise out to the beach. Park it on the far end of the parking lot, so you can peep it when going home. Look out of the corner of your eye and see the people stopping to check it out and wonder what the hell it is they see! Notice the handfull of rock chips, scratches and the like from all the curbs and such you have come into contact with over the previous 10 years. You will remember EACH and EVERY one of them, I assure you. You will also remember 1000 times you cruised a nice set of turns, or had a nice dig off the line and got goosebumps all over. Now put the car on the auction block with $95K on the ODO. You sell it for $10K or so because the mileage is getting up there for a blown ride.

I would take a $10K hit a thousand times over.......
