Wrong, the only custom exhaust Saleen had made was for the Cobras to fit around the IRS. Everything else was off the shelf. You'd be surprised how many "special made" Saleen parts are right off the shelf. This is done so you can switch vendors very easy, just like when they stopped using off the shelf Borla and went to off the shelf Magnaflow.

Alright just to prove my point i will take pictures of the catback system i bought that fits a GT. And second off stop telling me its wrong when i personally have measured my car and a GT's and they are completly different in hanger position and width. Do it get under your saleen and look at the hanger on the tip of the exhuast. It is not stock. The only wat a gt exhaust fits on there is it you take the pips and rebend them and then cut the hanger that came on them off and put a new hanger on that drops that will actually fit. Im telling you it does not fit. I have the problem right now. this is not just a hunch. So once you get outside and do some measuring yourself dont tell me a exhaust for a gt will fit without modification

Well you all are telling me a GT exhaust will fit. I have a bassani BX catback under it right now. It will not fit period. to make it fit i would need to cut and weld the over the axle pipe as well as put a spacer to drop down the exhaust hanger bracket to where it would actually come out of the rear fascia. Its as simple as that. If i still had the stock exhaust i could figure it out but i do not. I was hoping someone with a 2002 saleen could get underneath it for me and try and measure the hanger coming off of the tip. Im only getting defensive because telling me a GT catback system will fit is not right. Otherwise i would not be having this problem because i have the bx system for the GT already

As posted in the other thread and copied again here for you:

* Well, you did say Flowmaster, and that is clearly 100% wrong, as you noted. I simply corrected the info for you.

* Saleen did NOT have Borla or Magnaflow "custom make" anything for the S281 cars, the parts were off the shelf.

* I have done plenty of research myself. First, as a 10 year owner. Second, as somebody who has spoken with hundreds of "new edge" Saleen owners. Third, as somebody who has spoken with more than a dozen of people who have worked for Saleen during the last 10 years. Lastly, as somebody who has been in the factory/assembly line more than a handful of times.

* BTW you have a former Saleen employee resonding to you in this thread that the exhaust was off the shelf Borla/Magnafow.

* You want to buy a "stock Saleen exhaust"? Piece of cake. A few clicks or a call to Borla/Magnaflow and it will be at your door in a few days.

* It is not a question of "what I think they may have done", it is a fact of what came on the car. The cars came with Borla/Magnaflow depending on when in production versus where Saleen Inc was with paying their bills at the time.

Best of luck with your hunt for exhaust. At least now you know what came on the cars, and where to find an OE replacement.

Just prove a point I did go measure mine, 00-0291 S281-SC.

I measured 48", center to center.

I also could get them 1/2" closer to center on both sides which would make it 47" center-to-center.

I also could get them 1/2" farther apart on both sides which would make it 49" center-to-center.

So, at this time I conclude (well, I actually did well before these threads) that a Mustang GT exhaust will fit.

Just goes to show you, don't ever ask a question on the internet. You may get the correct answer, and you may be completely wrong.

Well you got what you wanted. You got the guy to crawl under his S281 and measure it for you. Here's the most interesting part of your thread. You can swap a termi Cobra motor into your car but can't figure out the exhaust hangers on your own? lol

Has anyone here actually swapped there stock borla or magnaflow out and put on a aftermarket gt's catback? The previous owner of my car put flowmasters on and they did not fit correctly. I had to loosen the hanger bolt to drop the tips down off the bumper until I brought it to a shop. The shop extended the pipe and changed a hangar to make it work.
