How are Saleens numbered?
Take for example 1990 - There were 8 coupes, 13 SCs, 173 hatchbacks and 62 convertibles for a total of 256. Was there a #1 of 8 for coupes and #1 of 62 for convertibles or were they numbered as they were built like one of the 8 coupes could be #243. Just curious because I have a friend looking at #204 (hatchback) and there were only 173 produced.
I hope this makes sense...... Thanks

If I understand your question...they are all sequential as they were built. I think they skipped some numbers (there is never a "6") and sometimes you could request a number. The anniversary models might be an exception to this rule.

Saleen had no real method for their numbering systme back then. Also, they were not numbered sequentially either as some have a lower number/later build date than some cars with an earlier build date, if you understand what I mean. Tony is correct in that there was never a #6 and people could special order numbers if they wanted to. Which means you could have a Saleen ID # greater than the total production for the year. They also didn't number them by body type. Meaning that for 1990, in the question here, there wasn't a #1 for a coupe and a #1 for a vert, if that makes sense. Again, there was no real logic to the number system. Hope that sheds some light on the matter.

OK great feedback on how they are numbered. So the fact that I have #35 just simply means that somebody at Saleen slapped #35 on it instead of it being the 35th car produced out of the total amount right? And here I thought I had a rarity, LOL....... The reason I asked is because there was 173 hatches built and #204 was for sale on ebay last week. I was just curious on that. Clear as mud! Thanks.. seriously, thank you.
