Refer to my "05+ Saleen speed" question with 40 responses a while back.

Thanks for the link, I had my car at that time but was not a forum participant anywhere. Looks like we are still at the same general consensus.

One thing I did not read in that other posting was how Saleen had not set the speedos right on some of the 05's and some of the 06's. I was talking to Jeff Clark a couple of years ago and he said allot of them were off 5-7% and were showing faster times by the speedo than what it was actually traveling. Hence the truth about them not being consistent in their tunes at that time.

One of the posts referenced the AZ Proving grounds which are very close to where I live, and my wife was a test driver there for awhile in 05-06. All of the vehicles she tested for Ford had GPS backed computers on board for acurate speed testing and she would always comment on how far off even the stock Ford cars and trucks would be off in actual MPH. I know that my speedo is pretty acurate as clocked with my GPS it doesn't vary, but it is kind of hard to glance at doing high speeds.

Lol are you ****ing kidding me...there is no way in hell a stock s281 sc is hitting over 165mph...those cars are slow, no offense...there is a video on youtube of a modded out centri powered stang from livernois I think...that thing had like 700hp and hit roughly 170-180 if I remember correctly

There is only one place a stock s281 sc is hitting 180...and that is on the dyno after 20 minutes of pinning the throttle in 5th..

Mickey, I quoted from memory the original answer from the former "head of Saleen engineering". He did 168 in a 475 car and said he could get it to 180 with more road and he did 190 in an E car and could get it over 200. I just checked the opriginal post and this is what is stated in it. I am not saying it is true but he was the expert at the time.

Well, it's not impossible for a car with only 400 or so RWHP to hit 155+.

03 cobras for example, have been proven to hit 175 and 180 BONE STOCK, with a re-flash to remove the Electronic Limiter. They only make 360-380 RWHP stock.

When I compare my 07 GT, to my 03 Cobra, in terms of accelarating at high speeds, my Cobra pulls like a freight train in comparison. Cobra makes 462 RWHP, and the GT makes 415 RWHP. Gearing, an extremely strong power-band, and cooling (head cooling, heat exchanger, intercooler, etc) my Cobra is great up top.

I don't see a Stock S281 even making similar power to my Cobra, because the power-band is not as strong, they are quite a bit less aerodynamic, etc.

I am sure a Saleen Stage 3 or an Extreme with enough road, can hit 180+ and not struggle.

Anything the old Saleen people said about power and top speed of the cars is pretty much bull****. Power and top speed was always way over exaggerated. These are the same people that said the original non TT S7 could do over 200 and could "probably" drive upside-down because of the downforce. Keep in mind the 1000hp TT S7 could barely hit 200mph in multiple runs we did with it at El Toro.

This thread is hilarious...Thank you Jared for having common sense...do you understand how much more difficult it is to hit 180mph over 165? It takes about 200 more horsepower...My car, as it sits right now, is faster than a stock extreme, hands down. I also have better top end and better tune and I am telling you now, no way in HELL is a stock extreme hitting over 175mph, no way, no how....unless it has about a 20 miles straight away and a full gas tank

people need to understand the mustang is just not a top end car...its built like a brick and isnt made for high speeds

I have a 2006 S281 SC #1583 and mine is governed at 150mph. I tested it about two months ago. Ripples were going through the hood at that speed. I figured it would go faster but if it wasn't for the governor, it would've kept on going. Mine doen't have the upgrade to 475hp; it is original at 435hp.

Aerodynamics plays a huge part at those speeds. The difference between 140 and 150 is much less than 160 to 170... and it grows exponentially as you gain speed.
Once you have power and aero down, you need to look at gearing and tire friction.... wide contact patchs up front turn into snow plows at those speeds.
