supercharger ate itself
I have a friend who drove his 2002 4.6 Saleen from the NE to NC for a romp in the mountains. On the way down, the supercharger started making noises like a dry bearing. The noises continued to get louder till the supercharger seized.
He bought the car with relatively low mileage, and had not gotten to the mileage limit for the lub service.
He's due back in the NE.
There is likely no one familar with the car here in Western NC.
Might it be possible to substitute a carburator on the car to get him home?
What harm could have come to the engine with the supercharger seizing?

No, you can't just swap a carb onto it.
There are lots of speedshops in NC - depending on where it's located. You don't have to be familiar with Saleen specifically to be able to diagnose./repair it. If he takes the belt off, does the blower spin freely?
Depending on what failed in the supercharger there could be no damage to the rest of the motor. If it started shredding parts and letting them go into the motor, he could have major issues.

sounds like the supercharger might of been low on oil. the intercooler water pumps are known to go bad as well, maybe it wasnt getting cool and it over heated. also the blowers with the stock intercooler leak hot air and are known to overheat. he should look into a chicane intercooler (not made anymore) but come for sale on saleen forums. i also think there is a company remaking that intercooler.
