You could try pulling the radio fuse. Sometimes a power reboot will work to reset everything. In my 2002 GT Ido have to take the unit out and take it apart once to get the CD's out.

I think I had to use a 6mm Allen wrench to hold the center post and box or open end wrench to tighten the nut, but it was not on the vehicle and had a spring compressor.
