Isn't the brace a solid piece? Just thinking of it from a physics standpoint... you might want to jack the front of the car up. Unloading the struts might move them farther apart or loading them more...

It's not always about the strength of the bolt. Some bolts are specifically chosen to be softer than what they are screwing into so that they break before threads get stripped or to prevent galling....

Mine come on any time the car is on as long as the parking brake isn't on. I've seen several on the highway with only the LEDs on. Don't recall seeing one in Oregon where they weren't on.
