How do you remove the punch pin on the T5 trannsmission

It is the first piece you have to remove when disassembling the transmission. Can you just push the pin through the bottom?

1991 mustang gt manual i checked tranny fluid after hearing whine and feeling roughness in tranny and it was only half full and leaking everywhere, but not leaking on ground, just underneath...
