Hook it up and return your car to stock and it will be unlocked. It will show how many unlocks it has left on the screen. The loaded tunes will not be affected by this.

A good trans tune, with adjustments for the lockup, will give you the most out of your converter. It's not absolutely necessary, you can run fine without it but it will give you better performance.

The load on the engine is dramatically increased at high rpm's without any help from gear multiplication, high gear. Most of the engine failures are from high gear runs.
