I had a similar sound in one car-caused by the dust shield. It was slightly bent and hit the brake caliper when I turned right. It was pretty easy to spot-there were scratch marks on it.

Jackstands are pretty universal and cheap. Jacks are a little more expensive. I'd get a full sized aluminium jack if it's in your budget. Keep in mind, good tools last a life time.

Come on, these were the worst days for "performance cars"! They were slower than a bicycle, laughed at and ridiculed. The only good things about the Mustang II was it kept the Mustang name alive.
