Spare tires for the 2005-2014 vs 2015-2017 Mustangs
I found out that Ford is dropping the V6 from the 2018 Mustang line. I didn't want a turbo-4 or the V8, so I bit the bullet and bought a 2017 Mustang V6. But looking in the trunk I only found the compressor kit. I started looking at the options for finding a spare tire at a decent price--maybe at a salvage yard. I was on the LMR website ( https://lmr.com/products/mustang-wheel-offset-guide ) and it showed the following wheel info:
2005-2014 Mustang & Mustang GT
bolt pattern: 5"x114.3mm
stud size: 1/2"x20mm
center bore: 70.3
offset: 35-50mm (H)
2015-2016 Mustang, GT, Ecoboost
bolt pattern: 5"x114.3mm
stud size: 1/2"x14mm
center bore: 70.3
offset: 35-50mm (H)
As you can see, the stud size is now smaller. Does that matter in terms of buying a spare wheel? I noticed that the spare tire kits at some of the Ford dealerships is part number FR3Z-1K007-C and it shows it is only compatible with the 2015-2017 Mustangs. If there is a difference in the spares, would there be a way of adapting a spare from a 2005-2014 Mustang to work on the 2017 Mustang?
Thanks!!!!
