Jake Lamotta is as legit as they come.

Give Jay @ Real Street Performance a call, 407-695-0699 or 877-429-5683
Here is their website http://www.realstreetperformance.com/
Most of the Mustang articles that feature LaMotta installs, have a tech named Jay Meagher doing the work. Well, he left LaMotta a while ago and started his own shop, which is Real Street Performance. They've done all the work on my car. He stands behind all his work and will not screw you over, I can't even begin to tell you all the extra effort he has put in for me calling part manufacturers when parts did not produce. He is a really cool guy and knows his way around mustangs, he runs a very honest, straight up business.
Tell him Brice recommended you.

You figure you'll pay 150 ish for the gears, 100 for the rebuild kit, about 40 for lube if you use the good stuff, and 150 for the install.
That's about 450, so 600 seems a little high.
On the other hand, if the guy who saves you 150 bucks doesn't get it right, it'll be an issue.
The gears can make all kinds of noise, you can damage them in a really short period of travel, etc... so the money might be worth it if the shop is a good one.
Just my .02.
