Speed Density vs. Mass Air????

I had an 88 GT with 2 chamber flows with turndowns, OFF-Road H-pipe and K&N in Factory airbox. It did come with Z-code rear with 3.08's. Maybe it was what yall call a frankenstein, but with 150,000 miles on it it would run 8.92 in the 1/8 spinning a lil bit. Stock for stock I think 87-88 speed density cars would walk all over 89-92 MAF cars. Not sure though. My 88 was fun though. 6-speed LT1's would barely get me, if they didn't know how to run the strip for all they had and hit the gears right they wouldn't. Ford changed cams in 89 to quieten valvetrain and lost 5-7h.p. that they didn't report in the H.P. ratings.
op IMO a 87-88 car is faster than most of the maf cars. It was mid 90 when they did the cam change. B4 I tore my 87 apart I was going to convert to maf for a twin turbo set up but a few things happened and didn't do it. I even had the turbos, com., and the harness and all.
If you get a 86 just change the heads, convert it to maf and sc it then enjoy it.

Just my two cents worth - SD motors tend to be a little "crisper" and "snappier" because the computer doesn't have to wait for an air measurement to figure out how much fuel to use. And I've had both - the SD definately felt more responsive (no throttle lag).
