Default coolant temp guage

I recently changed my coolant temp sensor on my 87 fox body and my guage still does not work . What should i do ??

ground the wire going to the sensor, if the guage pegs, then the sensor is bad, if it stays the same, the guage is bad

What do you mean when you say "ground the wire"?

the wire that is hooked up to the sensor that runs to the gauge.
