Default Hesitating & Need Advice/Info

Hey guys so i just picked up a 1985 carbed.

Im really new to carbed engines but anyways here is goes.

1) Is it normal to have to give a carbed car alot more gas in first? I find that i need to rev the thing to like 2000 rpm or else it will stall. Compaired to my old 88 efi its alot different..

2) I just got the car so it might need a big tune up but when im cruising or even when i go WOT it hesitates like crazy.. barly picks up speed..?

What should i do?

Revving up to 2000 rpm's isn't normal.
Running properly you ahould be able to lift the clutch and get it rolling without touching the gas.

Something isn't right. Start with the ignition system, make sure all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor are good, timing is correct, right plug gaps etc etc. Set base timing to about 14. Then go from there. The carb probably at least needs to be cleaned up, possibly tuned correctly.

Best trap 107.11mph, we'll see what the new intake/carb setup does.
12.80 at 110.5mph NHRA DA corrected

okay thanks guys. Ill start with a tune up, reset the timing.. When i first start up the car when its cold it jumps to 2000 rpm and stay at that rpm on idle untill i put it into gear and start driving.. Then the rpms will drop or raise to what ever im making it go to.

What are the benefits of buying a new carb and air filter ontop? Should i ditch the stock one and upgrade?
