timing question

check tdc on #1 cylinder on compression stroke and check rotor to see if pointing to #1 plug wire, just went through same problem with missing i put distributor in wrong and didn't check being in a hurry i was 180 off.

Hey all so I am new at this mustang thing. Used to have a honda trying to resto project on a 89 GT. Right now just working on regular motor needs. how do I know if I need a new cap n rotor?? I changed the spark plugs and put new wires on cap look ****in new.. Please help )

Did you do any damage when the plug was ejected? How's it running now?

Pull the wires off the cap one at a time. Take a close look at the metal connections in the cap. They should like clean and shiney. If there's a bunch of carbon and it looks burnt, replace it.

Look on the underside of the cap. If it looks burnt, or corroded, replace it.

If you replace the cap, replace the rotor also.

If you've already replaced the plugs and wires, I would just replace the cap and rotor anyway. I like to do it all at once.

okay, it's running just a tad better it seems, still misfires and pops though... it's not like it's running HORRIBLE, just worse than what it should. so instead of being a ~12.2 car, it's more like a ~13.0 car, i'm just gonna keep running this motor easy til i find another one to replace it and stroke that
