Default Carburetor change on 1985 GT

I have an '85 GT I bought new. I have always had carb problems. I recently bought a new Edelbrock #1406 carb. I installed it and it starts & runs good, but it idles way too fast, like 2500 RPM. I am wondering if I can just loose all the emission vacuum stuff and just have vacuum advance and vacuum to power brakes. Do I need to loose the EGR plate? Has any one done something like this? HELP!

yes you can loose the emissions, but a better intake to use than stock would be a performer 289 = non - emissions

I did the same thing with my 84 and it too idles fast. I use a summit air gap intake manifold and it runs way better than when I had the stock manifold. I have ajusted my timing again and again but my idle is still fast. I would think that the edlebrock performer cam that I have in it would have a slower more lopie operation but I might be missing something.
