Speed density applies to 1986-1988. I recommend staying speed density. Converting to MAF will not add any power. You can bump timing and install a chip. Either chip is fine - they are equivalent. I have used both chips on 5.0 speed density vehicles. You can also further advance the timing yourself. Some think the chip doesn't help but it does.

It does help those who don't know how to tune their car themselves. But its a waste of money either way for its "perks". Converting to MAF is cheaper than getting chipped. Then if you add any upgrades after you get chipped you have to do it all over again. Not with MAF.

The biggest reason people talk crap about chips with 5.0's is because alot of people thing mail order chips are going to help. If someone was going to get a dyno tune and a chip then yea it helps but again, more mods mean more tuning which means more money....NOT WORTH IT

How much did these chips help your speed density cars? Did you just plug and play or get a dyno tune?

I never put the results on the dyno but the seat-of-the-pants dyno verified their claims. JetChip has an advertised amount of gain and Hypertech's records didn't go back that far to make any claims. Plug and play. The gains are noticable at all RPM's including better idle quality.

Ok you have me rethinking the chip route man. I have a 350.00 budget the next three things on my wish list are, chip, electric fan, and msd distrib. What would you recommend for me? Wich one will be the most nocitable SEAT OF YOUR PANTS? Thanks in advance!

The MSD distributor isn't gonna help you either. They have too many problems and are not needed for a stock setup. They help when you are spinning the motor higher (6k+). They tend to have issues with their internal sensors for some reason.

You should get a set of roller rockers instead. Then go with a 3G alt swap and THEN get the electric fan. What else do you have done with the suspension?

I recommend you get a JetChip and an MSD ignition box (unit 6A). Also bump the timing to 13-14 BTDC if it will take it without spark knocking. The fan and distributor won't help you any.
