Default Will a chip help my speed density set-up?

I'm in the market to buy a chip for my 87 gt. I've been looking at the Jet module or the hypertech chip? Which one do you guys think is the best for me? My car is stock 5.0 with CAI,70mm tb,Cobra intake,Long tube headers with off road h pipe, underdrive pulleys,4.10 gears, and 1"in intake spacer. Any advice is greatly welcomed! Thanks

in your current state, no not really. if you want an optimal setup, as adder will mention when he sees this thread, get a PMS system. you'll be paying a pretty penny though.

you can go a long way with the stock computer. though SD cars dont like big cam profiles as far as i remember.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A CHIP!!!

If you want to upgrade the system just go to a MAF setup. Speed density can be modified alot but is not understood as much as MAF is.

Speed density only allows you to work within the defined/narrow set of parameters. For some reason the aftermarket tuner's never got very involved with SD. If you could, convert to MA.

What alot of people don't realize also is that in the early 90's SD foxes where faster than MAF's...

^^^^^They were out of the box but, like you said the speed density couldn't handle a healthy cam. the flat top pistons in the earlier SD cars hurt valve clearance and notching was required or new pistons. In my opinion your better off with MAF check valve clearance on stock bottom ends.

The next motor mod is the one you haven't done which are heads. BUT if you are auto then you can get a shift kit and a stall. You can also upgrade your ignition...that DOES NOT mean go but a MSD distributor because you don't need one. No need to worry about flat top pistons though. That was only in 86.

Hey Men thanks for your feed back! From what i'am gathering im better off doing the MAF conversion instead of a chip wright? Any body know where I can find any of these MAF conversion kits and what size I should get the MAF in? Thanks again in advance!!!

^^no chip needed.....as stated for ease a maf conversion would be best.....if you had an SD tuner and were able to navigate through the schaler tables the sd would be more benificial to keep but not in your case for ease

..... based on the add-on's you have installed, a chip is not required. In the case of a speed density EEC only, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be a better investment over a chip.
