I put a Edelbrock on my 83 when I had it. It was a good carb.

The very last of the carbed Mustangs ever built used either a 585 or 600 CFM carb.
These were a Holley carb that was designed by Ford for the Mustangs.
They were basically a vacumn secondary electric choke 4 barrel 4100 series carb.
Can't even get them anymore so just get yourself a 600 vacumn secondary and be doe with it......
GOOD,FAST, CHEAP-----------YOU CAN ONLY GET 2 OUT OF 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
