Default Suspension upgrade 2001 Cobra

I recently bought an 01 Cobra, and was thinking of lowering it a bit for a slightly better stance. But am getting fairly confused by all of the information available. It seems that you are saying that the OEM equipment is already done for, and upgrading springs requires replacement kits for adjusting to the new height. I see various kits on your site, but am unsure and thought maybe you could make a recomendation. I was hoping to keep to $1k or less to start, but if needed I can just wait until I have the needed funds. I want to do the right thing and not cause more problems by cheaping out.

It is my daily driver, and hopefully in the next couple months I will be doing some autocross, but no drag racing or anything on a professional level. The car is presently completely stock with no existing suspension upgrades/changes. What would be a good starting place to replace worn parts, and to follow up with that to lower the car a bit properly.

You can definitely improve the suspension quite a bit within your budget.

I would suggest the following..

Most Important:
[ul][*]Shocks & Struts - a good set of aftermarket shocks & struts. The 03-04 Cobra's had Bilstein from the factory, but the 99-01 did not. So upgrading to a good set of Bilstein Shocks & Struts will be a nice option for you.[*]Lowering Springs - The H&R Sport Springs are a popular choice for 99-01 IRS owners. They will lower the car about 1.5 inches, and makenoticeable improvement in handling.[*]Caster / Camber plates - after lowering, you will want CC plates to help align the car properly.[/ul]
Also Recommended:
[ul][*]Spring isolators[*]IRS control arm, subframe, and differential bushings (to revamp the IRS and replace worn OEM bushings) - IRS Bushing Selection[/ul]
Also, if you wanted a "no fuss" solution, and you did not want to customize anything... Maximum Motorsports has a nice packaged called the "Starter Box", which includes many of the items I'm recommending. http://www.stangsuspension.com/store...?idproduct=176
Sincerely,

Thanks for the help. I ordered springs and struts/shocks with the isolators. I went with Steeda springs as I like their quality. Hopefully I can get a bushing set with some other parts down the road, maybe I will get a raise at work to help me pay for stuff

I want to thank StangSuspension for the good pricing and for actually responding to my emails with understandable responses and for being very helpful with resolving a very minor shipping issue.

Do you have a "how to" section on replacing ALL of the suspension bushings in a Cobra?

We do not have a How-To section on our own website, but we do have a great link for you.

Check out this link...

http://www.maximummotorsports.com/st...n_page=install

It is the Maximum Motorsports Installation Instructions section. They have a Cobra IRS section near the bottom which goes over the general installation of the most common bushing replacement items.
