Raced An AC Cobra
My car -> 05 Mustang GT/manual/C&L Street Intake/Predator 93 octane canned tune.
I'll also preface this by saying the race took place between exits on a 65 mph limited access expressway with no other traffic around.
I spotted him approaching in my rear view mirror doing about 35 mph on a local street. As he started pulling alongside, I heard the unmistakable rumble from his headers and side exhaust pipes, and immediately knew that he had the big block. A 427 badge on the side of his car confirmed it.
He turned onto the expressway entrance ramp, and I followed with my heart pounding and the adrenaline rushing thru my veins. I already knew that he was going to eat my lunch if we raced(427 AC Cobra/425 hp/2300 lb. = low 12's in the 1/4). But this was the 1st time in my life that I had a chance to race this muscle car legend, and I wanted to see exactly how fast it was. I was about to find out.
He floored it going up the ramp with light brown smoke pouring out of his exhaust. That definitely showed me he was in race mode, so I immediately floored it. He let up after getting on the x-way, and after I pulled along side, I d/s into 2nd and we raced from a 40 mph roll. He quickly pulled a 2 car lead when he suddenly let up after we shifted into 3rd. S..t!!! I wanted to see him redline it in 3rd, and really take off!
As I started catching up to him and anticipating the next race, I discovered why he let up so quickly. His exit was just ahead, and he would have missed it he kept it floored in 3rd. I followed him down the exit ramp, and we stopped side by side at a red light where I started to ask him about his car. Unfortunately, the light turned green with traffic behind us, and he could not hear me over his exhaust noise once we got under way. So I just gave him a big thumbs up, and he did the same before turning onto another street.
So even though it was only a short encounter, it was a sweet one, and I savored every moment. And I have no problem whatsoever getting beat by Carroll Shelby's 'Legend'.

RE: Raced An AC Cobra
probably a replica. i love those things. a completed factory five cobra kit weighs in at just over 2,100lbs, so crazy hp/weight ratios, e.g. with 350rwhp, 0 - 60 in about 3.5sec and low 12s in the 1/4 mile.

The main question I wanted to ask him was whether it was an original or replica when were were stopped at the light. Perhaps we'll meet somewhere down the road again, and he can answer it. But will he be truthful? And is there any way to tell the difference?

i dont think theres really a way to tell real from replica unless you get down to every little detail of the car. id say replica. but, nice race. those things are sick. saw one in Va Beach. baby blue. bada$$. sounded AWESOME. i just stood there and drooled. nice loss
