Default 2006 GTI

There's this guy who works with one of my friends who has a 2006 GTI. I'd have to say its a pretty nice car. I took him pretty easily when we first raced but now he just got some sort of "superchip". He claims that his car now has 300 fwhp(or are GTIs AWD?). Anyways, is this possible?

highly doubting he picked up over 100 WHP with a electronics jimmy.... sure chips free up some horse... but I don't think VW would detune the car 100+ WHP I'm sorry [&:]

if he raised the boost a **** ton... that doesn't sound safe... but I don't know enough about the car to say that for sure

Wouldn't that be Crank HP? But he got some more boost to pick up that much HP.

that's why I said over 100 WHP, because the car sits 200 at the fly... if he is claiming 300 WHP... that's alot of boost for a chip being the only mod added.... at least IMO

from what I saw from factory turbo cars... you can only up the boost a tad more before you have to replace the stock turbo....

50-75hp increase on the 2.0T motor in those things is very realistic for some of the more aggresive chips on the market. 100whp would require at least 6-7psi increase, which I doubt would be very safe on the stock motor for all too long, especially if the "chip" doesn't come hand in hand with a dyno tune. It is possible though, but unlikely. It is much more likely that he has 250-275fwhp (FLY wheel hp), but not 300whp, which he probably read incorrectly somewhere and thought the "f" stood for "front".

alright i figure out whats going on. It isnt 300 whp its to the crank so that makes sense. Still thats pretty damn good for only a chip.

Man those GTI's must come with like 50 trims from the factory. Do you know how nasty big a turbo would have to be from the factory to gain 100 hp with 6 pounds?

6-7psi was an in-the-moment estimate. My buddy has an '02 GTI with the 1.8T, and he got a chip that raised the boost by about that much, and consistantly beat our friend's 14.05 @ 99 '95 m3 from a roll. The chip was supposed to increase his hp from 180ish to 240ish at the motor.

I am probably incorrect about the numbers, but the point I made remains.
