In the last few generations Fords marketing strategy was always different from GM's. Which is to say that Ford offered a lower power V8 (nothing substantially awesome) for the V8 demanding nonperformance customer. Then they produced specialty models like the Cobra and Mach 1 to cater to those who desired competitive performance in their Mustang. I don't see that strategy changing. Which is why I, and alot of others, feel that Ford won't spruce up the GT model a whole lot from where it is right now. I can see the 3V 4.6 getting tuned up a few ponies and getting a few interior/exterior refinements. I don't see it moving upwards of the 350hp mark, if that.
If I'm wrong about Ford's use of the GT model..........the GT's sales will suffer greatly in the face of the new competition. Otherwise, the GT's will continue to sell extremely well despite being the lowest powered V8 pony on the market. You dudes have to understand, the greatest majority of Mustang buyers buy it because its a Mustang. The same reason that so many guys buy Corvettes. The name and image itself is what sells the cars............regardless of the car's performance. Only a small percentage of ppl who take an interest in these cars are actually interested in their overall competitive edge............which is why the V6's models always outsell the V8's.[X(]

ford and gm have had alot different mentalities...
GM put out the GTO, it bombed because there was no V6 for those who just wanted the GTO name, as much as im not a fan of v6's they are what keep the mustang line going, not the gt. right now ford doesnt have any muscle car competition... they are milking the market, not doing anything with it as long as possible... i mean from 05 to 08 there has been NO performance gains in the gt... its all in little **** that makes it look different or better.
ford waisted all its green on the FORD GT (great car, stupid idea making it because it killed SVT) and now are doing the same thing on the GT500. dont get me wrong i love the car, but its a dream car for most, and ford could be doing stuff to the basic GT... i think one of the new options for it are the HID headlights... i mean comon!
all i wish ford would do is take the gt, offer a basic stripped down GT (ok maybe with A/C) give it a 6 spd and big N/A engine to build off of... so many people are looking for these kool little toys, thats not what this car is about.
thats another subject to... even the basic econo cars have 6spds now... ford better shove one in the next gt or that will **** them aswell... the 2000 z28 also had that, and yet the 08 will be without...
ford is a great company, but sometimes they just **** me off

What I've heard thru the grapevine is that the deal with Shelby is done as of 09. There's a possibility that a half year run of 09 GT500's will be produced, but there's no guarantee right now. Otherwise, 08 will be the last year you see the Shelby name on a Ford factory produced Mustang. When the redesigned Mustangs arrive, the top dog pony will likely regain the SVT Cobra badge.........it won't be the GT500 anymore.
I think a middle tier V8 Mustang is needed.........that goes without saying. At least one man out there, understands this need..............too bad his name+ limited edition run = way too expensive:

bring back the 32V S/C 4.6 as a returning Mach 1/Bullit/ Boss model
and let the rich bastards keep paying 50-70K for Shelby specialties

some big shot wanted the FORD GT, he tasked SVT with this, gave them lots of money. in tern they had to put the other projects on hold, like the svt sport track, the cobra, the focus, and some other little ideas floating around like the fusion. after the GT was built, they didnt get enough cash to rebound on their other projects, ford had shelby come in for the cobra to balence it out, and svt's main guy incharge was the last of the group that originally formed it. all the other big wigs left. so svt just fell apart and ford with its overall suckyness in sales decided to scrap it completely.
so we got the ford gt... instead of...
new svt focus
svt made cobra (not shelby)
03 cobra powered sport track
possible turbo's fusion
not a good trade off in my mind, considering the fusion with a rally theme and a turbo would be a nice car to play with the STI and EVO's out there...

SVT isn't dead yet. Talk right now is that they are starting to work on some new projects, and there's even word that the team has increased in size in the last year or so. I wouldn't count them out yet. And while I'd like to see a new 400-450hp Boss from them..........I agree it would be cool to see a turbo'd sport suspensioned AWD Fusion.

ford focus st, built for europe. has the volvo c30 engine (aka inline 5 turbo) and its kool!
http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/to...ne-Concept.htm
Ford Adrenaline, taking the spot of the lightning (03 cobra engine)
http://rsportscars.com/eng/articles/fusion_sema.asp
Ford SEMA fusion, which would be awesome for a domestic to rival those evo's sti's 350z's if they just marketed them twords those cars, they would make a killing, because all those american loving consumers who like those cars, would have something to dump money on...

To the concept Trans Am- that is bad *** to the bone.
As far as a 300HP GT vs. 400HP Camaro, I really do not see the GT sales falling. GM overpowerd Ford in 93 with the LT1 and in 98 with the LS1, and the Mustang still sold. I agree competetion will encourge a more powerful Mustang, but the V6 still carries the majority as mentioned.
I would like to see:
A seroius import fighter- target STI
A RWD, 6 speed,bad *** 4 door- target Charger/CTS-V
A GT 300-325HP
A Mach 1, Boss, Bullit- 400HP lmaybe 03 Cobra motor
Cobra- 550HP S/C
Just a wish list.
