Good write up. When I got this car I wanted to race my old mustang [2000 GT] to see where I stood. Well, to this day I have never raced my old mustang, but I sitll find mustangs to race. I've always liked mustangs and always will. When this car is ready to be garaged [4 years or so and then kept in good shape] I'll probably buy another one, slap on a turbo, and have fun.

*Something interesting though, was reading an article the other day and according to the laws of this government 75% of a car/its parts must come from America/built in america to be an "american car"...the current mustang sits at 69% if I recall correctly. [8D]

People race newer mustangs because the 95-97 were slower than molasses on a cold day, and they arn't expecting much.

Get a few lightly modded civics to beat a few automatic 96 GTs with terrible drivers and you get a rep...
why not 94 or 98s?

Its sad because in 99 New edge GT's and Ls1s ruled the streets...there wasnt alot of cars that were faster than a 99 gt
cuz' lord knows LT1s were no where near the same caliber right? [8D]

The last time I can remember a GT actually outright ruling the streets was the mid 80's when the 5 liter foxes were putting the beat down on everything.

Mustangs are however the benchmark for performance. When you hear most people compare speed and power more likely than not you hear them make some comparison to a mustang, except for the supercar exotics that are built for one thing. Thats why I believe that so many people try to race mustangs, while the don't run the streets they are a decent performer that can be used as a yard stick for basic performance.

Mustang sets the bar for most people on whether or not your car is considered fast.
I say anything over 300rwhp is fast

I never really could afford it, and then when I could, I had two girls! Not to mention my wife said at this point in our lives, a 2 door just won't work. Don't worry though, when the kids are a bit older, I'll have one sitting in my garage. I just wonder what they'll look like by then!

Indeed, awesome rightup.

I remember when I had my first car, a 99 plymouth neon, and wasn't into cars at ALL....

I wouldn't even recognize a trans am, and could only tell a camaro by looking at the back of it, but same with the mustang.

When I would see a camaro, I would like "hey look, a camaro." But when I saw the mustang "holy ****! a mustang!"

IDK why, but its just the way things were. Not to mention, Mustangs are my dads fav car, he had probably 7 or 8 of them throughout his life, so that probably counted for something too.
