I was just on edmunds checking out the pontiac G8 GT and this car is seriosuly impressive. I was under the impression it would be a low 14 second car. Ends up it ran 5.4 to 60 and 13.7 at 104.5 . The 1/4 mile time tells me it wont be quiet at fast as the S197 but the mph seems high. The gears are junk as well. Do you guys think stock itll outrun the S197 cars. I cant help but think with the same 3.55 gear it would win with not much troubles. They ran it agianst a srt 8 charger and claim to be a bumper behind all the way up to 100mph!!.. Any imput http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=124876

Stock G8 to outrun the S197 GTs? Not really, no. The LS1 GTOs with about the same power numbers (give or take 10 here and there) are about even with the GTs, so the G8 with two extra doors shouldn't really run away from a GT...at least IMO.
I wonder if they underrated the G8 though. Surely the 6 speed auto helps to keep up with an SRT8, but enough to make up for 60 hp?
....eh what the hell, it may as well be a little faster than a new GT then. But keep in mind, all three cars are probably within .5 tenths of each other in the quarter (my guess, not a fact).
They are, and just looking at the power numbers between a G8 and a GT, I though the two would be a close race, but in that article, they said the G8 hang on well with the SRT8 at speeds over 100 mph, despite the power deficit.
There probably is a bigger difference than a half second among the three cars listed, but I haven't read or seen an SRT8 break into the 12s stock while I've seen some S197 GT's run 13.5-13.6's at Milan.
yeah the srt i thought is faster. but if it only beat the g8 by a bumper or half a car then it couldnt of run the low 13 that i thought the srt runs. so maybe the srt just ran bad or the guys testing these cars arnt able to push these cars to their full potential.. meaning the g8 will run low 13's.. hell i dont no what to think

That's what I'm saying. I wonder if the G8 is underrated and they just snuck in the LS2 right from the 'vette without detuning it at all.

Well this could mean either the G8 had a horrible 60' during that 1/4 run and it is actually faster than they admit, or the SRT8 was being driven by a complete idiot.

I'm starting to think the G8 is underrated. It weighs about 4,000 pounds, which is maybe a 100 pounds less than an SRT8, yet it kept up despite having 60 less hp. I can't see that the driver sucked on an automatic car, especially when they talk about the two cars hanging close together at speeds above 100 mph...we'll just have to wait and see until the G8 comes out and people drag them at the track.
yeah i doubt the 6 speed tanny is wats make up the horsepower difference.. and the weight is only a 50 or so pound difference (according to the article). They also say it costs less then a charger rt. Seems like a pretty solid car
