Default Saw a GMC Typhoon for the first time today

This kid at work has been bragging about his uncle's truck for literally two years. Everytime he says his uncle is going to bring it by there is always a problem with it or he just never shows up. So today we get the usual song and dance about his uncle is coming and bringing his truck. At first I'm thinking its a Lightning or maybe a 350 swap in an s10 or something, but the kid kept swearing it was turbo charged. When he pulled up my jaw damn near fell off. He pulled up in a 93 GMC Typhoon. I have never seen one in person before so I was a little in awe because I love those things. I got a couple pics but they are ****ty camera phone pics and none of them really came out well, his uncle offered to email me some pics so I hope he does. After bull****ting for a little about the truck he asks if we want to go for a ride. We go down town by the old abandoned football field where there us a nice 1.25-1.5 mile strech of road that no one really drives on. When he punched it I was planted in the seat, this thing was a real blast to drive in, I really wish he let me drive it. He had an exhaust and intake as well as a dyno tune, I can't be sure if he was telling the truth or not but he said that he gets about 260 hp to the wheels and a little over 350 ft.lbs. of torque at the wheels, not bad considering it AWD. Stock the truck should have been good for low 14s but he had slips for low 13s at 101-104 mph with pump gas, he said with a little race gas and a change in tune he could be in the 12s. If anybody has seen one of these or the counterpart Cyclone can you confirm this? I really want one of these things now, it must be a great sleeper.

Confirmed. They are in the 13s stock. I'm surprised he hasn't run better than a low 13 with those mods, but then again, she's got some age/miles on her, so it may not be running %100. There used to be some guys around town with the typhoons and cyclones back in their hayday.

His best pass was a 13.07 at 103mph. He said that he had a rather conservative tune and isn't running too much boost. He had a little picture book of some of the rides in his carclub(all typhoons and cyclones). There was a typhoon that had been changed to 2wd and this thing pumped out like 700 hp to the wheels and ran low 10s. I really like them, and wouldn't mind buying one and turning it into one hell of a sleeper.

Funny, I just saw one for the first time in person as well (Over @ Sentara Careplex in Hampton) thing had a huge ass IC sticking out of the bottom with an aluminum 'scoop' (I suppose to redirect more air flow to the unit). All white, looked pretty sharp wish I had my camera to take pics. I'm not sure of the year though...

I think they only made them for two years 92-93, I could be wrong though.

Dunno, I just remember it being early 90s, don't remember the years.

LOL......C&D ran one against I believe a Ferrari 348 in the quarter when they came out. Result was a lower time for the Cyclone......but the trap speed was over ten miles an hour slower

Oh yea, they're definetly fast from a dig. I don't think its uncommon for them to pull a 1.6 60'. That AWD takes its tollonce it gets moving though.

Just like the Grand Nationals (although, the cyclone and Typhoon have the 4.3 liter I believe), they can put some serious hp at the wheels for not a whole lot of cash.

LOL.. Road & Track did something similar with a Cyclone in late 91 when they first came out, one I believe theirs was cyclone vs. a testarossa.. The cyclone beat it by almost a tenth in the 1/8, but the ferarri walked it in 1/4 from what I remember.
