Default It is what it is...

Well, finally decided to drag the GT out to No Problem Raceway for my first trip down the 1/4 ever. I'm sure my expectations were a bit high......but I was definitely total track noob in effect. And, of course, my BFG KDW2 did NOTHING for my traction. I've decided against going back until I have some DR's. Here's the play by play...

1st run: 60': 2.324
1/8: 9.128 @ 84.84 mph
1/4: 13.641 @ 110.5 mph

2nd run: 60': 2.181
1/8: 8.816 @ 83.76 mph
1/4: 13.359 @ 110.0 mph

3rd run: 60': 2.036
1/8: 8.504 @ 85.86 mph
1/4: 12.972 @ 111.33 mph

Then it hit me I'd been running all my passes with TC turned on....and like a dumbass I decided to go ahead and turn it off, thus completely obliterating everything I had learned on my previous 3 passes. Car got no traction thru 1st and 2nd and started getting squirrelly...with me having to let off around 1/2 track.

4th run: 60': 2.370
1/8: 9.363 @ 77.01 mph
1/4: 14.608 @ 95.03 mph [&o]

Guess I can't be too hard on myself, being my first time down the 1/4 ever. I was hoping to pull off a 12.6 or 12.7 at least. But the street tires were hurting me bad, and I completely crippled my learning process with the whole TC thing. Maybe next time. At least I got out the 13's.[8D]

FWIW, temps were in the 60's. Car was run as is right off the street. No weight reduction.......no reduction of tire air pressure........no icing down the intake housing. I also did not powershift on any of my runs.

Thats not bad at all Blood. Its a total bitch trying to run a blower on street tires. I know what you mean about letting off at half track, kinda gets your attention in a scary way.

Anyway, I think that 2.0-12.97 runis pretty impressive, especially considering it was your first time on the track with the car. Can't wait to see what that thing will do with some good DRs!

12's are definately in the car, at least I think. I think the hardest part of driving a twin screw car is having so much torque down low, you'll never hook up on anything except drag radials, maybe just don't launch it too hard next time, roll into the throttle instead of just punching it. but then again, what do I know, its been a long time since Ive run a std. transmission at the track

I was basicly rolling into the throttle at about 2500 rpms on just about every run. I think I rolled into it a little too softly most times, and probably could have dropped a little faster if I'd kept the TC on. Its funny too cuz the TC used to kill my acceleration before the blower.....but it didn't really seem to hinder me very much at the track with the blower. Guess that's why it took a while for me to realize I was running with it still on. With the TC off, the car was hopeless.

I had time to get in a few more runs (track really wasn't busy much at all), but my 4th run scared me off. There weren't alot of ppl running street cars on street tires tonite. And those that were were running 14s and slower.

I don't know how it is with the S197's, but with the New Edges TC cuts fuel, which would make the motor go boom, bad thing, so I don't use traction control, but it might be different on those cars

In a new edge, when the car senses that you don't have traction, it cuts fuel instead of just closing the throttle blades, which makes the car run super lean.

I got the info from ZW99GT, he said that one of the more reputible shops around him blew up their first Supercharged New Edge that way

So is this something that happens with just F/I NE's or stock ones too?

stock ones too, but you aren't flowing enough CFM on a stock one to really hurt the engine, I don't know what it's like for the S197s
