Default RE: NMRA SSO Racer Jarret Halfacre caught cheating?

Yes he was using nitrous and a turbo which is not allowed in the class. The big issue is how long has he been doing this? He has been racing in the class for a few years and doing well, but if he has been cheating all along it really screwd a lot of other racers who were racing with legit set-ups. Plus he was sitting 2nd in points for this year. IMO he should be kicked out for the rest of the year.

Yes it will. That's why I say it's OK to bend the rules, that's what all winning class racers do, but out and out cheating is different. Say you find something that is not strictly prohibited by the rules but is kinda a "grey" area. A racer should take advantage of that untill the rules are re-written, but this is different.

What JD said is right, the grey area of the rules is what breaks world records.

That's exactly what the issue is. I would be furious as another racer, especially those who came in just behind him in races each year. I wouldn't be happy until he was permanently removed from the sport, if I was another racer.

He was hidinbg it really well. He used a CO2 bottle to hold the nitrous (which is legal for the release of the chutes). The officials traced some suspect lines and found a solonoid hidden in the fender. At this point Halfacre declined to tear the car any further. Trust me, I hide a kit so nobody could find it (unless they really tore the car down, like in this case). Many of these guys are former street racers and hiding a kit has been going for ever.

Actually just having the nitrous solenoid on a turbo car is a violation of the rules.

However, since he refused continued inspection by tech there by not completeing the tear down he is in violation in any regard. However, the penalty is a little different. Had he completed the tear down and found in violation he would have faced a three race suspension, lose of points, and fines. Since he refused the tear down he now faces the more severe penalty of being banned from NMRA for 2 years.

It's really pretty sad. He seemed like a nice guy. However, it appears that he was at the minimum violating the rules (having a nitrous solenoid on a turbo car), at the worst out right cheating by actually spraying the turbo or boot strapping the exhaust either of which is a violation of the NMRa rules.

Double post, sorry the new format seems to be running a bit slow.
