The new WRX is likely faster simply because of its gearing. From experience, the 6 speed in the STi, although bulletproof strong, is not ideal for straight line racing. The gears are hella short. You're shifting into 5th by the end of the 1/4 mile! 1st 2nd and 3rd rip by, especially if you're heavily modded... 4th gear is the money gear in that car. My old stage 4 WRX was not as fast as my STi in a straight line obviously, but it was a lot easier to row through the gears and would probably be faster if power wise they were equal.

It sounds to me like Ford should already be worried about that little problem, except it's a V6 Camaro lol

But the old ones were just as fast, but alot better looking

Not totally true the 2004 or 06 STI is the fastest STi they made. I don't recall what the differences were but it's about .1 faster 0-60 and .2 faster in the quarter with a 1 mph faster trap than the current gen of STi

A regular WRX is not a match for a S197 GT an STi yes.

The 2009 WRX certainly is a match for an S197 GT.

Looked at the article. So basically the WRX is the New WRX STi..like I said a plain WRX or what they're calling now a 2.5i will not run with a S197.

2009 WRX = 2008 and older WRX STi... technicality I know :P

Here we go again.. have you seen the times for the new V6 camaro? It sits squarely between the V6 stang and the GT Stang.

Two reasons, weight and less TQ. Its' rated at 280ish Tq. That's 40 less than a GT and weighs about 100lbs more than the GT.

TQ gets you moving, HP keeps you there or pushes you once your moving. Thus V6 maro times of low 6 and Quarter times of mid to high 14's

Torque measures are not really that important, some of your faster cars out there have pretty low torque numbers. Hp is where its at..

I guess maybe top speed.. It has a faster 0-60 and a comparable 1/4 mile time.

Umm..TQ is very important. TQ becomes less important when you have a light car like the less than 2000 lbs Ariel Atom or others and can hang with a Z06 Vette
