guys, how can you be this ignorant?
crankwalk was not very common, and it only happened to 95/96.
They get their bad name and rep from their white trash drivers... no maintenance, just beat on it all day.
You put 2k into a stock awd dsm, and then put 2k into a fox, evo, wrx,f body, etc and the dsm will always be faster. Cheap for fast, but they are seriously junky cars.
I am thinking you need to race some better cars, or stop racing 6 cylinder Camaros with 180,000 miles on them. I have yet to find ANY DSM in the whole St.Louis area that can crank out better numbers than even the slowest of my cars, all of which have been GM, or Ford. You put $2,000 into one of those POS cars and you're not even getting started. I've put roughly $2,000 into my mustang and you'de be lucky to touch me in that car with any DSM.
add another 0 to that $2,000 and maybe you're right, but you're way the hell off if you think $2,000 into a car like that can keep up with cars that have the same weight and a whole lot more cubic inches to go around to mess with.
* I take that back. I know one mix-matched DSM car in the area, but he has a 350SBC in his car and it's not even one car.. more like three or four different cars with a DSM in there somewhere.

H/C/I, 1.7 rockers & new springs, UD pullies, full exhaust with headers/ no cats, 4.10 gears, shift kit. Virgin block, 80K on it. I think that's about it. Might be one or two other things I'm missing but I'm sure that covers it for the most part.

How was you able to squeaze that out of 2K? Whats your WHP?
If you want to talk 'normal' prices, I'd be right around $2,000 for what I have personally spent had I bought the parts for normal prices. I bought a few parts for "used" prices but they were brand new, and I also know quite a few people I guess so I can get heavy discounts on parts. I also bought the car with the exhaust minus the headers, so that was helpful, along with a brand new transmission.
to the wheels I am thinking 335 or so. Maybe a bit more when I get it running perfectly from a few dyno runs. I am thinking of having the heads worked on by a friend though to hopefully squeeze a few more out before the S/C goes on and I get bored. I haven't gotten it dyno tuned yet since I've been busy messing around with my GM crap.
- also, keep in mind you can find some great used parts and keep things well under $2,000 if you shop right. That's what I used to do as long as you know who you're dealing with and what you're buying.

wasn't sure what happened but it went out of commission for about a month or two.... I just met the kid again and he is now ruinning an aftermarket turbo with a larger front mount and a proper dyno tune
we raced with his new setup from a stop and I drove my GTO.... we took it up to 120MPH and I won by 3 cars with a CAI+tune combo
go figure...
Did I watch it wrong or did a car have to pull off to the side so the TSI could pass on the first run?

I was wonderin wut the hell DSM stood for and where ya'll were gettin that from...
I know wut Talons and Eclipses are,
obviously,
but I've never heard em referred to as DSM's...
There were a couple seriously fast DSMs in northern VA when I used to live up there. There was a guy who was like a DSM guru who had some sick Eclipse or Talon or something with like 700awhp. I never saw it, but supposedly the thing looked completely stock down to the wheels. A buddy of mine in my old school's car club bought a Talon as a track whore and he finally got it fixed up and had a good time with it. Parts are real cheap for those cars so it definitely helps when they break quite frequently haha

I have a cousin with one, or up until a few weks ago. He sold it for $1k, it wasn't running. When he bought it, it ran decent, pretty stout with an exhaust, etc. Then his trans went out, so he bought another trans (used) and that one lasted about a month before it managed to punch a hole thru the top of the transmission. No idea how that happened. They can be made fast, but do seem to have some issues with reliability. A friend of mine that used to have one and sunk a lot of money into his said that they use a lot of oil as well.

If you take it to the third story and drop it just right it will clearance itself. Might not be pretty or functional when its done, but it would be in there.
