So what is the car that you thought would be an easy race and you were left saying that it is faster than I thought? Mine has to be a 12 sec 4X4
Was it a GMC Syclone?
Mine is a Lincoln LS V8, I got beat by one when I only had an intake and crappy tune. He got the jump on me and I didn't have enough room to pull him back in.
I've honestly only ever had one big surprise, although I'm not sure you could call it a sleeper. It was an older Lightning, not the SC'd 5.4 one, but the NA 351 one. Anyways, at the time I had my '99 Dakota RT. It had heads, cam, full bolt-ons. Now, the thing wasn't ungodly fast by any means, but it was pretty mean. More than enough to take out the average opponents I came across. So, I'm out cruising one night, and I see this guy in an older red Lightning kind of goofing around and showing off like he's about something. I ignore him thinking it's a completely stock old beater. Well, later that night I'm heading out of town and who do I come up on?? Mr. Lightning. There's no stop lights on this road, but it's a two-lane in both directions, and it's late and empty. I pass him up real quick to see if he wants to play..... he bites. Game on. We slow down to about 20 (in a 40 zone), and I'm thinking I'm going to cream this guy. We both hit it same time (both had 1 passenger btw), and it f#cking looked like someone turned on a giant Hoover behind me. That Lighting flat left me. Forget car lengths, we're talking light poles rapage here. I let out at 90~ and the guy had buses and change on my ass. He slows down and turns off, so I do the same and we chat a little bit. Turns out he had a built low CR motor w/ a 76mm hairdryer pushing 13psi. Said it dynoed in the 550 range, but he had no track times. Judging by the beating he put on me, and since I'm fairly sure my Dak was in the 375whp ballpark, I believed him.
I've always wanted a sleeper of my own though, for sure. Ideally, I'd like a Caddy Catera w/ an LS1 shoehorned in it. A Procharged, sprayed, and DR'd Buick Roadmaster Wagon would work too.....
I know that I would really like to build a 4x4 Cummins/Banks sleeper
I don't get to race much since I'm driving the hemibeast, but, for some reasons ricers like to jack with me. It always seems to be the fart can only boys which are no contest until one day I ran across one of those dang civics that wasn't fart can only. Yep, buslengths would be accurate and it wasn't a very long race
