Real twistie road could be close. Just a highway cruize or a back road run, Mustang should out power the V-dub pretty easily.

depends on the drivers, if this guy sucks at driving his mustang I could beat him in my old explorer

but the mustang should win

You have to remember that the 1.8T in the beetle is de-tuned from the factory. VW gets about 180 out of them for the MK4 GTI. Even if the tune picks this guy up about 30-40 hp which I highly doubt then he still only has around 200 whp. You'd have about a 80-90 whp advantage, plus a sizeable torque advantage. The only thing you have against you is the extra weight of both the convertable and the auto. I still see the mustang having this by multiple lengths in a straight line.

Well I figure to the rear wheels its 300-310HP (Mustang) vrs 200HP (GTI).

Will be interesting to see who wins. The GTI is quick but I can feel the lack of torque.

You need to be a little more specific here. You are racing on a 2 mile drag strip or a 2 mile road course?

If you are talking about a road course then the outcome is hard to guess. The GTI can out brake and handle you but your extra 80hp(guess) should still probably give you the advantage. But if you have never road raced before then a good driver could probably beat you in my little Mazda 3.

I know that 3v's pick-up a ton of power from intake and tune but I don't know about 40rwhp.

Also I would guess he's making more then 200rwhp, the last Gen GTI's made more 200rwhp with a tune.

The best dyno test I did in April when I put the mods in was 306

The race is on a 4 mile strip of un-used private road, no curves.

If the road isn't cear of obsticales, ice and such we aren't doing it. Was repaved a few years ago but lack of new development means no new houses and its un-used.

i don't think it will be a contest if theres no twisties.you'll pull him hard from the getgo and still be pulling hard past 100.too much torque advantage.i do like some of those little tuner cars nowadays and wish i had one i could drop some money into.
