Very plausable. That would explain him pulling on the mach at the start then running even for that short time.
apparrently the mach got the jump, which could just be explainable by the hydraulic clutch, or any number of things.
But since he found the actual car, I think just the other guy started in the wrong gear. Maybe he thought he had the race in the bag, so he didn't bother changing gears?

I have ran quite a few S197s in my Mach. Just about everytime, it stays close until the Mach hits high rpms, like 4500. At that point, I almost always pull them as long as they are armed with mere bolt-ons and gears. Op, if you guys had've gone any further, I can almost guarantee you that he would of gradually started pulling you. Machs are not really any faster than a S197 in the 1/8th, but the trap speeds in the 1/4 are usually considerably higher for the Mach. Good run OP!

He actually shifted two times while I only shifted one time. Could that be because he has 4.10s and I have 3.31s? He was definitely in the right gear at the start, high RPMs... but maybe he shifts slow?
Either way, the dude was pretty cool and his car was nice too... I figured it was faster than mine, so it's no surprise that you all are saying he should pull on me during an extended run. :-)
And to boduke, I actually don't run very often as my car is stuck with mostly highway commuting miles... just seems like every time I do run someone, I wind up posting it here. :-)

Does he have 4.10s too? Jesus, if he does, he needs his license revoked, lol! I know its pretty common knowledge that 4.10s help cars leave harder from a dig, but 4.10s help Machs from a dig or a roll. Idk man, somethings off, could be the driver, I just don't know. All I can tell ya is you did better than he did.

he shifted twice? that doesn't make any sense? do you mean he downshifted, and then upshifted?
He down shifted when I pulled up along side of him, but he was at really high rpms... when he took off he went maybe 2 seconds and then up shifted. And he shifted again right about the same time I shifted...

Sounds right to me minus the full bolt on part. When you talk to most people they think it sounds cool to say that but in reality they have different mufflers and a CAI.

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.
