Default Ran a Mach 1... Interesting Results

So on Thursday I was driving home from work and was on the feeder road along side the highway. I see a new edge flying up behind me. When he got closeer I dropped into 2nd and took off... well, he still was going a good bit quicker than me so he passed me up. But he then started to slow down and allowed me to catch up. When I pulled up along side of him I got the chance to check out his car and it was a Mach 1 with loads of ricer stickers on the door panels and it had a huge flat black wing on the back.

Since there was a little bit of traffic I was a little hesitant to really run but I thought a short one was ok... :-)

Anyways we were side by side and I was in 2nd gear around 3,000rpms and he down shifted (his car sounded awesome) and he got the jump. We ran through 2nd gear and shortly after I shifted into 3rd I left off... I didn't want to go any faster because of the traffic.

But the crazy thing is that we were side by side the whole way... he didn't pull on me at all. Infact, since he got the slight jump I actually pulled him in just a shade since we were door to door when I let off.

Granted the 'race' lasted only for a few seconds but I thought the Mach 1s were faster. We pulled up alongside of each other at the next light and he asked what I'd done to the car, I told him only the exhaust and CAI. He said he had full bolt ons.

Is this an expected result? I thought he would have pulled on me a little... especially since I have 3.31s and I started too low in my powerband. He sounded like he was right in the meat of his when we took off.

You guys raced for not even two full gears. Results don't seem that off I guess...although full bolt on's would seem like he woulda pulled away.

In conclusion, lol.

Like I said, it was a short race... maybe only an acceleration of 30mph, but I would have thought even a stock Mach 1 would have pulled on me.

I guess it could have been a normal new edge with full bolt ons and just a Mach 1 sticker on the side....?

Did you confirm it was a Mach 1. I've seen quite a few Mach posers. Results would make sense if it were a "full bolt-on" 2v. Full bolt on 4v would own you, even if it were an auto. If it were a stock Mach then the results might make some sense.

I know the exhaust was aftermarket... it sounded fantastic, super deep.

Other than the name badge on the side, is there another way I could determine if it was a true Mach 1?

Ok, so I actually found a pic of it... I remembered the car had a sticker www.wittenperformance.com on the rear bumper so I went to that site and snooped around and found a link to this Car Domain site... here is the car and the link to his cardomain.

It does list all his mods... full bolt ons for sure.

I'm totally confused now... I can only assume he wasn't in it all the way, but it sure as heck sounded like he was!!

I feel like Sherlock Holmes though, haha... doing research and all!

hah most likely he is a bad driver or something is wrong with him or the car. with his mods he should have beat you rather than ran with you.

+ 1 on the bad driver. Machs are a beast, it really makes me wonder why ford didn't make the Mach 1 engine the base for the S197...
