Default 02 GT vs Pontiac G8 GT

After going out to eat with a few friends, (3 people in car total), I see a nice new Pontiac G8 GT sitting in the lot next to my Mustang. A man and his girlfriend are about to get in the car when I compliment him on it.. he kind of gave me a cold "thanks", and took a good look at my car. (For those of you who don't know, the G8 GTs are equipped with a 6.0L V8 producing 362hp and an automatic transmission.)

He leaves before me, but as I pull out of the lot to turn right, I notice he just left, and is cruising at a really slow speed. I proceed to pass him at light throttle, and then he guns it by me.

At this point I knew he wanted to race. I was pretty sure I was going to lose, my only mods being a Steeda Tr-Ax, balled tires, and a CAI (I've got LTs at home.. waiting for an install!). I wanted to try anyways, being an interesting comparison. We line up together starting at 40mph.. he gets a slight jump on the start.. we go up to about 95mph.. he has a steady 2 car length lead the whole time. Then we line up at a stoplight.. and this is where I thought I might have an advantage, my car being a manual trans. It was literally a dead heat when we had to stop for traffic around 75mph.

I was proud of my modest GT, given that it could stick with a car with nearly 100 more horsepower, and the fact that I had an extra passenger.

The guy most have really sucked at his launch if he's in a new car with new tires and getting out launched by someone with bald tires. Sounds like a good time.

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.

Nice race, I saw a G8 GXP the other day on the interstate. I we probably would have run except there was too much traffic around. I'm pretty sure I would have gotten smoked by the GXP though... I need to hurry up and put the blower on... lol

Nice race. I thought those things were supposed to be the 2nd birth of the GTO....Until I saw the 13.7 1/4 mile time.

nice runs...G8 is a respectable car, they run good for being a 4 door sedan basically.

No GT emblems, no fog lights...It'd be easy for someone that's not a Mustang/Muscle Car enthusiast to mistake his car for a V6.

From the local track I've seen a couple G8 GT's run anywhere from 13.5 - 14.1, they usually trap pretty well too.

I thought it was a sixxer before I read you post and I went back and took a closer look at your signature and realized that was dark dark green and not black.

That shouldn't matter though. You read posts about people getting races in their 6 cylinder mustangs all the time.
