Default 09 Mazda Speed 3 vs 05 GT (Results)

Results from a Thead posted in the racers bench area.

Well today I finally got the guy to agree to run instead of just talking a lot of crap. I told him I would give him the advantage by going from a 35 roll since that's one of my dead spots. He agreed and we lined em up.

First Run: For some reason he flies by and slows down after passing me before we even line up. He slows down and I speed up a lil until I'm going 35. He suddenly honks it off when I'm still only lined up with the back off his passenger door and on three we go. I was like...WTF! Anyways he got a jump, but by mid third we shut down because a light turned red up ahead. Result...Me by half car in mid third

Second Run: We line up even this time and I honk off. He jumps before my third honk, but not bad. I start pulling him in and passing slowly, and this time I only have him by 3/4 to a full car mid third gear. About 3800-4000 rpms.

He told me he know I beat him fair and square, but I was a little depressed by how close it actually was. All my mods are in my sig, and he has basically a stock 09 MS3 with intake only. I guess a win is a win

Sounds pretty lame on his part. You won even with him being a douche, if he races that way I'm sure he has other mods he didn't tell you about.

Guy seems like a dbag. Those things are awful tough from a roll and an intake does wonders on a Turbo car.

I think he was just really excited and didnt know how to do it correctly. And I know he only has intake cause I saw his engine bay. Just still really confused...

Good run OP. I'm not surprised by the results. I figured you would beat him, but knew it wouldn't exactly be a raping. You really needed to be reved up more than you were, IMO. MS3s don't have to rev to make power and go. The pull from just about any RPM all the way up to 5800 RPM or so, unlike our GTs which need to rev to make power. Good job man, you still got him even with him taking the jump.

Btw, intakes make big gains on MS3s.

good kill..... dont let that bug ya, your car is impressive.... you sure the ms3 didnt have some kind of engine management also? how about its exhaust... stock? a intake and a stg1 tune could get another 30hp. full exhaust and stg2 tune could get 70-80hp..... he also has less wieght too.... ill be honest, messing with ANY forced induct car, doesnt matter 8,6,4..... can lead to ......

Ya he's had the car for a little over a month, and he always says he doesnt have enough money. Plus he had to save up for that intake so I'm sure the intake is the only new thing on it, but like I've found out from everyone, I guess an intake does a lot for an FI car.

Yep. I've spanked a couple S197 GTs in my S4.

Neither one of them seemed to be able to drive for ****, though.

Ahh I envy you I really love those S4s. I even liked the way they looked before they switched to the V8 S4. I've only raced one from a roll a long while ago, but it was stock, atleast I'm assuming by the amount of lengths I put on him. Goodluck with the Audi.

My buddy has a Speed 6 which is the same engine as the 3. With full bolt ons, stock turbo, and the engine management setup, he made like 280hp/340rwtq and ran a 13.4.

And like someone else mentioned, these cars making amazing low end torque for a turbo'd 4cyl.
