Default Had a run with an LS2 Goat

I went for a ride downtown tonight and on my way back I got beside a dark red 05-06 GTO. He didn't notice me at first. I started to rev at him, but felt sort of weird doing that with other cars beside and around us, so I didn't. The light turned green, and everyone took off normal. He immediately heard my exhaust and turned to look at me. When he did, we both grinned and rolled into it, both of us still in 1st gear running about 10 mph. I got a nose on him at first. I'm pretty sure he was spinning a little from the sound of his car. I did not spin at all in 1st, but when I went into 2nd I spun pretty good. This put him just ahead of me by a fender. I shifted into third as hard as I could, but I couldn't squeeze ahead, only get back even with him. I heard him bark 3rd and he inched back ahead again by a fender. It was a damn good run, with both of us gaining ground and losing ground with each shift. We shut it down at about 80-85 mph, which was more than fast enough in town like that. He appeared to be stock from what I could tell. If he had an intake or tune, I couldn't tell. His exhaust was stock, or at least very quiet. There's no doubt it was a 6-speed GTO. Both of our windows were down so I could hear every peep his car made being that we ran right beside on another the whole time. So, it appears that all of my mods so far chalk up to be even with a stock LS2 GTO. Kind of sucks, but thats the way it goes. I did manage to hold off my co-worker in his LS2 Vette, but a lot of that had to do with me busting his ass from a dig, and out driving him. If that GTO and I had of gone from a dig instead of a 10 mph roll, I think I could of put a car on him from the get-go, but we didn't so it was close. Anyway, that was my excitement for the night.

Nice runs Stone! To bad you couldn't have run him from a dig where your experience would have given you the upper hand.

LS2 GTOs are pretty quick. Not a bad thing if your door to door with one. I drove my buddies 05 and it felt strong as hell.

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.

Thanks 83, dig races are definitely where its at with these S197s.

You're right BB. They are strong. I test drove an A4 LS2 a few months ago and that thing squatted down and pulled hard. I guess there will always be a stock car out there that is just as quick(er) as my modded one. Its cool, it just gives me an excuse to keep modding, lol!

Nice run man! No shame in that, GTOs are quick cars!

Good run stone. It seems you must the only honest one who has run against a goat. Every thread i come across is that they are slow. Which even with a little more weight i have found it hard to believe a 400 hp car can be that slow.

I'm not sure. The advertised weight is around 3550, but everytime you turn around someone is claiming something totally different. I've been meaning to run by a truck stop and park it on the scales to find out for sure how heavy it is.

I know what you mean. Seems like everyone is making those claims. The fact is, they are 13.0-13.3 second cars stock. I mostly see them trapping 107-109 stock as well. At the same time, I've watched plenty of them go up in smoke. Makes you wonder how many of these GTO kill stories involved a GTO driver that could tie his own shoes.

I ran one myself when I was only intake/tune, I got the jump on him by like a car and kept him off.. til about 110, where he began to pull so hard it more then made up the car length, but then he let off.. that shiets got some top end lol. I just needed more power!
