Default 347 STROKER KILL

I'm sitting at a stop light a few cars back in the right lane. All of a sudden i hear a loud rev, i look in the rear view and dont see anything i loook next to me and see this old 67 mustang revving im revving back his buddy says u don't want none of this car. I laugh and say yea right i ask what he has in it he says its a 67 with a 347 stroker motor, i'm thinkin damn i shouldnt have laughed. we just cruise out of the light all the traffic clears and he punches it so do i and i stay pretty much even with him. he slows down i pass and get a few cars up. i hear him punch it again and get beside me i drop it to low and he punches it again and i do to and i pulled on him like he wasnt **** until about 50 mph then he comes back. lol it was a great race and very fun. i just thought i share it with you guys. i was expecting to lose i never thought that would be the out come. btw my dads in the car with me haha

Not a well set up car, for sure. A 67 is a fair bit lighter than you, and a decent 347 should be making quite a bit more power. Maybe he was running crap stock heads, or he just couldn't drive. Good kill, his buddy maybe should have kept his mouth shut though.

13.20's with 2.25-2.30 60's, 40+ year old suspension sucks!
Best trap 107.11mph, we'll see what the new intake/carb setup does.
12.80 at 110.5mph NHRA DA corrected

How are you going to lose to a bolt on PI 2v with a 347? Maybe the car was an original auto 3 speed with 2.73 gears?

You said you had him until 50 mph, and then he started coming back? I'm thinking maybe he was spinning pretty bad. Who knows. Either way you got him. Nice kill!

Okay, all the better then! It had to feel pretty good to take down a stang with a motor of that caliber.

If you build a 347 with crap parts, a weak cam and stock heads, it might as well be a stock 302. With a crappy trans/diff ratio you have a recipe for 0 performance. I've seen people do it...build 347's that would be lucky to get 300hp at the crank on a good day. The engine wasn't stock, a stock 289 would get stomped by a bolt on PI 2V. They really only made an honest 185hp.

A half build 347 would have chewed you up and spit you out.

your making what? 260hp? maybe?

a MILD 347 would be 300hp at the wheel. theres plenty of guys with 350-375horse at the tire with nothing to crazy in there set up.

He might have just been playing with you, or just had his car set up like crap.

Im sure it was fun, and i guess you beat him if you call playing around a "race" but as stated it don't make sence.

I totally understand that, I've heard of guys making 260rwhp with a 347. Even still, a 260rwhp, 3000lb '67 Mustang should walk a 260rwhp(bolt-on) 2v. Most '67/'68 Mustang's were 3-speed auto's, they almost all came with 2.80 gears. If the guy the OP ran still had a stock trans/axle setup, it would make sense that the OP would leave him off the line only to have the '67 begin to run him down.
