Default Mach vs new SS...at the track!

So I decided to go yesterday to a nearby 1/8 mile track which sucks greatly but oh well. When I go in I spot a black new camaro, turns out to be an auto SS. I waited for him in the staging lanes and we ran 3 times. First one I redlighted from being excited to run the camaro and being my first time to the track in over a year. Second run, I won with an 8.8x @ 83 to his 8.7x @ 82.5, 60fts were similar (high 2.1s- low 2.2s). Third run I also won with an 8.7X @ 83 to his 8.7X @ 82 with same 60ft as the 2nd run. Afterwards we parked and talked for a while, pretty nice guy, turns out it has intake, o/r midpipe and tune.

NOTE: He said stock it ran consistant mid 9s, just thought I would throw that in there.

Stock that thing should easily be into the 8's, probably closer to mid 8's. Maybe the auto isnt as good as I thought they were in them. Nice kills!!

I think they've had some issues with those autos, they aren't as fast as they are supposed to be or something.

They have 3.42s I think, same as the GTO. I'm pretty sure anyway.

Nice runs Dark. I'm not surprised at all that you beat that SS with your mods. The new SS are decently quick cars, but I think all the hype and excitement of a new camaro might of got everyone's hopes up a little too much.

I ran quicker than that in my stock A4 '98 TA.

I would have pegged the Mach to be a bottom 13 second car, but those traps surely don't say that.

If it was an auto, didn't it have the L99?

He's got a low 13, or high 12 second Mach, just not on that night, lol. My 5 spd Mach ran 13.0 at 109.9 and trapped 87 or 88 mph in the 1/8th with a few less mods than Dark. Florida is known for having some real shi++y air, and he said the track prep was pretty bad too, so it sounds like thats about all he could do without making it worse.

How could a 6 speed automatic's gearing be so bad? 6 forward gears, **** first gear probably runs out at 25-30 mph, second probably runs out near 60?

Sounds like the track was bad, not the cars. I would imagine a modded tuned auto SS would wake up a lot.
