I've been told it takes 25 more HP to push an extra 100 pounds of weight. So figure the Vette is 300 pounds lighter. Thats like having a 75HP advantage. Ruffly! I'm sure those figures aren't rocket science dead on.

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.

I remember rolling up to the dyno shop a few years ago in my 04 GTO. I had LTs, intake, stuff like that. There was a blue C5 Z06 there as well. I remember feeling all big and bad when my GTO made something like 345 rwhp, but then this Z06 hopped up there and made somewhere around 450 rwhp (actually, I think it was higher than that) with the same mods as me plus a cam. Knocked me right off my little pedestal with a quickness. Still got the vid of it actually. I've never ran one, but every since that day I have respected them and fully expect to get raped by one at some point.

I dunno, but that's how the race went down. Unless it wasn't a Z06. It definitely didn't sound modded, either way. And I never heard him shift the whole time.
If you never heard him shift then he was probably rolling around in 4th. that would explain your intial jump and his late surge..

I dont downshift all the time..especaily if I dont need too..

I'm proposing it was a dressed up C5 coupe and not a Z06. Things would ring a little more true if that were the case. I just can't see a lightly modded S197 having that respectable a showing from a freeway roll matched against a C5 Z. Stranger things have happened but not very often...

They are mid to high 12 seconds cars. If he would have started in his powerband then he would have beat me by more... but from 50 to 100, and starting out of his powerband he was only able to just get a head of me. It wasn't a very long race.. i'm sure from a dig to 100 it would have been worse, or if he was in a lower gear. But that's not what happened.
The C5 Z produces 405fwhp, considerably more than you and as mentioned it has a fairly substantial weight advantage as well. 70 more horse and some 400lbs less. Nobody's knocking your ride but a C5 Z in capable hands should have turned your asshole inside out dry'style...

I had a similiar run.. expect it was a 1st gear roll and i never got more than half a car on him (which was for a split second anyway) before he blew by me. Those c5z's def move.

you know there were c5 vettes that had the same design as the c5 z06, my guess now is that you ran a regular c5 with that appearance, figure that car makes about 320rwhp and weighs 300+ pounds less than you and to top it off the corvette's gearing is built for top speed as opposed to quickness which would explain the one car pull
